I’m Dr. Ravalika Sajja and a PhD trained materials scientist and STEM professional based in the UK. My journey started with an Integrated MSc in Chemistry in India and gradually took me through research internships, international academic experiences, a fully funded PhD and now an industry role in advanced technology. Over the years, I have been fortunate to receive several competitive scholarships and fellowships, including the Indian Academy of Sciences Scholarship for my research internship at IISER Pune, the Charpak Fellowship for my research experience in France, the IIT Bombay IRCC Scholarship for my master’s thesis, an EPSRC-funded fully funded PhD at the University of Manchester and the Henry Royce Institute & University of Cambridge EnterpriseTech Scholarship. I know how confusing the journey can feel when you are trying to build a strong STEM career without a clear roadmap. When I was a student, I had to figure out many things step by step; how to find research internships, how to approach professors, how to build a strong CV, how to apply for international opportunities, how to prepare for a PhD, how to move from academia into industry and how to present myself confidently on LinkedIn. Through these experiences, I have seen both sides of the journey: the uncertainty of applying for opportunities and the confidence that comes from learning how to position yourself better.
