About me

Hi, I’m Dr. Ketaki Chavan. I’m a Relationship Counsellor (PGDPC from Symbiosis, Pune), 3× author, and former Oral Surgeon who believes that the quality of your relationships begins with the relationship you have with yourself. My journey from oral surgery to psychology was driven by a deep passion for understanding human behaviour and helping people create meaningful, lasting change. Through my work, I’ve supported individuals in navigating relationship challenges, overthinking, low self-worth, heartbreak, people-pleasing, and emotional struggles with compassion and evidence-based psychological approaches. My counselling style combines empathy with practical strategies, drawing from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and psychological counselling principles. Rather than offering quick fixes, I help you understand the patterns behind your thoughts, emotions, and relationships so you can build healthier connections—with yourself and with others. Whether you’re healing from a difficult relationship, feeling emotionally stuck, or simply wanting to grow, my goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Because when you transform the relationship you have with yourself, every other relationship begins to change. I look forward to being a part of your journey.

Frequently asked questions

How does relationship counselling work?

In relationship counselling, you start by sharing what's troubling you — recurring fights, distance, a breakup, trust issues, or simply feeling emotionally stuck. The counsellor listens without judgment, helps you identify the patterns behind your thoughts, emotions, and reactions, and then works with you on practical strategies, often drawn from approaches like CBT. Sessions usually last 45–60 minutes, can be one-on-one or with a partner, and progress builds over multiple sittings as you apply what you learn between them.

How much does relationship counselling cost in India?

The cost varies widely depending on the counsellor's qualifications, experience, session length, and whether it's online or in person. As a broad range, sessions with trained counsellors usually fall between a few hundred and a few thousand rupees. Many counsellors also offer packages of 4–6 sessions at a lower per-session rate, which works out more affordable if you need continued support. The clearest way to know is to check the counsellor's booking page, where current fees are listed before you pay.

What is marriage counselling, and who is it for?

Marriage counselling is a structured form of talk therapy where a trained counsellor helps a couple — or one partner individually — work through problems such as communication breakdowns, repeated arguments, trust issues, family pressure, intimacy, or thoughts of separation. It is not only for marriages on the verge of ending; many couples use it preventively before marriage or during rough patches. The counsellor acts as a neutral guide and uses evidence-based methods to help both people understand each other and rebuild the connection.

What is a relationship counsellor?

A relationship counsellor is a trained professional who helps people work through problems in their relationships — with partners, family, or themselves. Most qualified counsellors hold a degree or diploma in psychology or counselling, such as a PG diploma, and use structured approaches like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Unlike a friend who takes sides, a relationship counsellor offers a neutral, non-judgmental space, helps you see your patterns clearly, and gives you practical tools to change them.

How to book marriage counselling?

Start by deciding whether you want to attend together as a couple or begin individually — both are common. Then shortlist a qualified counsellor whose specialization matches your concern, read genuine client reviews, and check their fees and session format. Most counsellors today let you book directly through their online booking page, where you pick a slot, make the payment, and join over a video call. If you're unsure, start with a short discovery call to see whether the counsellor feels like the right fit before committing to a package.

Is relationship counselling online as effective as in-person counselling?

For most concerns, yes. Video sessions give you access to qualified counsellors across India, not just in your own city, and many people find it easier to open up from the comfort of home. What actually decides the outcome is the counsellor's training, your comfort with them, and how consistently you attend — not the medium. Online sessions are also easier to sustain if you travel or have a busy schedule.

How do I find trustworthy relationship counselling near me?

Go beyond location when searching for relationship counselling near me — shortlist counsellors who state their qualifications clearly, mention their approach (such as CBT or psychological counselling), and have genuine client reviews. Check whether their specialization matches your issue, whether it's breakups, communication problems, or overthinking. Book a discovery call if one is offered, because comfort with the counsellor matters more than distance. And remember, online sessions mean the best fit may not be in your city at all.

Can I get relationship counselling online for free?

You can find free support through helplines, mental-health blogs, videos, and self-help content, and these are useful for general guidance. But free options are generic — they can't dig into your specific history, patterns, and triggers the way a trained counsellor can. A practical middle path is that many professional counsellors offer a low-cost or free discovery call, so you can experience counselling before investing in full sessions. If your relationship struggles are affecting your sleep, work, or daily life, it's worth moving beyond free content to structured support.

How to heal from heartbreak?

Healing from heartbreak needs both time and structure. Allow yourself to grieve instead of pretending you're fine, set boundaries like muting or unfollowing the person, and rebuild your routine with sleep, movement, and people who ground you. Journaling helps you process the pain rather than replay it on a loop. If months pass and you're still stuck in the same hurt, or it's denting your self-worth, working with a counsellor gives you a safe space and a clear path forward instead of white-knuckling it alone.

How to speed up heartbreak recovery?

You can't skip grief, but you can avoid the things that keep you stuck. The biggest accelerators are strict no-contact, staying off their social media, resisting the urge to analyse every old message, and filling the empty space with structure — work, exercise, friends, and proper sleep. Journaling your thoughts instead of rehearsing them mentally also helps, as does talking to someone trained, because a counsellor can spot the patterns like self-blame or people-pleasing that quietly delay recovery. Expect progress in waves, not a straight line.

How long does healing a broken heart take?

There's no fixed answer, but for most people the sharpest pain eases within a few months, while deeper healing can take six months to a year or more. The actual heartbreak recovery time depends on how long the relationship lasted, how it ended, how much contact you still have, and your support system. If a year has passed and the intensity feels the same, that's usually a sign the grief is stuck, and structured support like counselling can help you process it properly rather than reliving it.

Does a heartbreak recovery program actually work, or is time the only cure?

A good one can genuinely help, because heartbreak recovery rarely happens on its own schedule — structure makes a difference. A well-designed heartbreak recovery program gives you step-by-step guidance through processing the pain, breaking the rumination cycle, rebuilding self-worth, and slowly reopening to connection, instead of vague advice like "just move on." Look for programs created by qualified counselling professionals and grounded in psychology rather than pop advice. For deeper wounds, pairing a program with one-on-one sessions works even better.

How do I stop overthinking so much?

Overthinking is usually a habit your mind uses to feel in control, often rooted in anxiety, fear of judgment, or low self-worth. Start by noticing and naming the loop, writing the worry down instead of replaying it, and setting a fixed "worry window" during the day. Then question the thought — is this fact or fear? But overthinking is rarely fixed by tips alone, because the underlying self-beliefs keep restarting the cycle. Working on those beliefs with a counsellor, often using CBT techniques, is what creates lasting change.

How to stop overthinking at night when your mind won't switch off?

Night-time overthinking spikes because the day's distractions are gone. Keep a notepad by the bed to dump lingering thoughts, avoid screens and scrolling in the last hour, and use slow breathing or a short guided meditation to settle your nervous system. CBT-style techniques like scheduling worry time earlier in the evening also reduce the mental replay at night. If your mind treats bedtime as a courtroom rehearsing the whole day, and this happens most nights, it's a pattern worth addressing with professional support rather than pushing through.
