Hello! I'm Yahya Alaa, a technologist who’s driven by innovation, growth, and impact. I'm based in Ottawa, Canada, and originally from Alexandria, Egypt. Here's a snapshot of my multifaceted journey so far. Industry Work: I currently work as a Machine Learning Engineer at Tempo Analytics, where I develop computer vision systems focused on retail analytics and speed-of-service solutions. My prior experience at SensorCortek involved building perception systems for autonomous vehicles as well as designing novel lightweight deep learning architectures. Research Contributions: As a graduate researcher at the VIVA Lab at uOttawa, my Master's thesis in Applied AI was centered on sensor fusion for 2D/3D object detection in autonomous driving systems. I've published research in the Machine Vision and Applications journal, the CVPR Perception Beyond the Visible Spectrum workshop, and the ISVC conference. I also contribute as an official reviewer for specialized IEEE journals and workshops. Entrepreneurship: I was a Technical Co-founder at VRapeutic, a health-tech startup. There, I led a team focused on developing VR software to help children with learning and developmental challenges. In addition, I competed in major startup competitions, including reaching the semi-finals of the Rice Business Plan Competition in 2021. Educational Impact: Teaching is a passion that complements my tech journey. At the University of Ottawa, I've guided students through various courses in CS fundamentals as their teaching assistants. Internationally, I've lectured in Egypt on topics like computer vision and deep learning. Additionally, I've supervised applied AI graduation projects in Egypt and Canada.
