to become a software engineer after 12th?","answer":"The standard route to become a software engineer after 12th is to take Science with PCM, clear an entrance exam like JEE Main or a state/college-level test, and pursue a B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, or Software Engineering. If you didn't take PCM, a BCA followed by an MCA is a solid alternative. Whatever degree you pick, start coding from the first year — learn one language well, practise data structures and algorithms, build small projects, and aim for internships by the second or third year."},{"question":"How to become a software engineer after 10th?","answer":"After 10th, choose the Science stream with PCM in 11th and 12th, since engineering admissions in India require it. The typical path is 11th–12th (PCM) → entrance exam → B.E./B.Tech in CS/IT or BCA. A faster, more practical option is a 3-year polytechnic diploma in computer science after 10th, followed by direct second-year entry into a B.E./B.Tech through lateral entry. Either way, start learning basic programming and maths seriously during these years — students who code before college find software engineering far easier."},{"question":"What is required to become a software engineer?","answer":"What is required to become a software engineer in India comes down to four things: education (usually a B.E./B.Tech in CS/IT or BCA, though many startups hire on skill alone), programming fluency in at least one language like Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript, strong data structures and algorithms practice since most interviews test it, and proof of work — projects on GitHub, internships, or open-source contributions. Add clear communication skills and you have everything recruiters look for in a fresher."},{"question":"How much does it cost to become a software engineer in India?","answer":"It depends on the route. A B.E./B.Tech at a government college typically costs around ₹2–8 lakh in total, while private colleges can range from ₹6 lakh to well over ₹20 lakh for four years. A BCA usually costs ₹1–4 lakh. How much it costs to become a software engineer also depends on extras like a decent laptop (₹40,000–70,000) and optional paid courses — the self-taught route itself can cost almost nothing beyond a laptop and internet, thanks to free courses, documentation, and practice platforms."},{"question":"What is B.E. Software Engineering?","answer":"B.E. Software Engineering is a four-year undergraduate engineering degree focused specifically on designing, building, and maintaining software systems. The B.E. Software Engineering syllabus typically covers programming fundamentals, data structures and algorithms, database management systems, operating systems, computer networks, software design and testing, web technologies, and electives like cloud computing or machine learning, ending with a final-year project. Admission is after 12th with PCM through entrance exams. Many Indian universities offer it as B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science instead, and both paths lead to the same software engineering jobs."},{"question":"Can you become a software engineer without a degree?","answer":"Yes, you can become a software engineer without a degree in India — many startups and product companies hire purely on skills. What replaces the degree is proof of ability: strong DSA practice, 2–3 solid projects on GitHub, internships or freelance work, and confident interview communication. The reality is that some large service companies and MNCs still use a degree as a filter, so the first job may take a little longer to land and may start at a modest salary. Once you have 1–2 years of experience, almost nobody asks about your degree again."},{"question":"How to become a software engineer without a degree?","answer":"To become a software engineer without a degree, follow a structured plan: pick one language (Python or Java) and master it, learn CS basics like DBMS, operating systems, and networking, practise DSA daily on LeetCode or similar platforms, build and deploy 2–3 real projects, contribute to open source for credibility, and then apply aggressively to startups, internships, and off-campus drives while networking on LinkedIn for referrals. Getting a personalised roadmap and honest feedback from an experienced engineer can save self-learners months of scattered tutorials."},{"question":"How long does it take to become a software engineer without a degree?","answer":"For most people, it takes 12–24 months of consistent effort to become job-ready without a degree. Claims of becoming a software engineer in 6 months are only realistic for those who can study full-time and already have some technical or mathematical background. With 3–4 focused hours daily — an hour of DSA plus project work — you can reach interview-ready level in about a year, then spend the next few months applying and interviewing. Consistency and building real projects matter far more than talent."},{"question":"How to start a software engineering career?","answer":"The clearest way to start a software engineering career is in this order: choose a direction (web, backend, mobile, or data), learn one language and its ecosystem deeply, practise DSA because Indian interviews test it heavily, build and deploy 2–3 portfolio projects on GitHub, then write a one-page resume and apply to internships and entry-level roles. Startups and off-campus drives are usually more accessible than big MNCs at the start, and referrals through LinkedIn and alumni networks dramatically increase callbacks."},{"question":"What are the main software engineering career options in India?","answer":"The main software engineering career options in India include frontend developer, backend developer, full-stack developer, mobile app developer, DevOps engineer, QA automation engineer, data engineer, and machine learning engineer. Most freshers enter through service-based companies or startups and specialise after 2–3 years of experience. If you're still in school, the entry point is choosing the right degree — B.E./B.Tech in CS/IT or BCA — because your specialisation and skills later matter more than your college name for long-term growth."},{"question":"What is a typical software engineering career salary in India?","answer":"A software engineering career salary in India typically starts at ₹3.5–5 LPA in service companies and ₹8–20+ LPA in product companies and well-funded startups for freshers. Mid-level engineers with 3–5 years of experience commonly earn ₹10–25 LPA, and senior engineers with strong system design skills can cross ₹30–50 LPA. Your trajectory depends far more on your problem-solving skills, the type of company you join, and how you specialise than on your degree or college name. These are indicative ranges and vary by city and company."},{"question":"How to grow your software engineer career in 2026?","answer":"To grow your software engineer career in 2026, focus on four things: keep fundamentals sharp, because DSA and system design still decide promotions and switches; adopt AI-assisted development, since engineers who use AI coding tools well are outpacing those who don't; pick a high-demand specialisation such as backend, cloud/DevOps, data engineering, or AI engineering and go deep; and build visibility through open source, GitHub, and LinkedIn. Companies now reward engineers who can ship complete features independently, not just those who know one framework."},{"question":"Is becoming a software engineer at 30 too late?","answer":"No — becoming a software engineer at 30 is absolutely possible, and career switchers in their 30s succeed regularly. What you need is a realistic plan: expect 12–18 months of focused upskilling if you're starting from scratch, target companies open to experienced hires from other fields, and leverage your past domain knowledge — for example, someone from banking or operations moving into fintech or enterprise software. Entry-level pay and competition with younger freshers are real challenges, but maturity, communication, and work experience often make switchers stronger candidates once they have the technical skills."},{"question":"Is it worth paying for a software engineering career coach?","answer":"It depends on where you're stuck. A software engineering career coach is worth paying for when you're confused about direction — choosing between BCA and B.Tech, deciding between a degree and self-learning, preparing for interviews without feedback, or switching careers — because personalised guidance from someone with real industry experience can save months of trial and error. If your problem is simply lack of information, free YouTube content and online communities may be enough. Paid 1:1 mentorship makes the most sense when you want a customised roadmap, honest feedback on your resume or projects, and accountability from someone who has actually worked as a software engineer."},{"question":"How to become a software engineer at Google?","answer":"To become a software engineer at Google, you need three things: exceptional data structures and algorithms skills (interviews focus on medium-to-hard LeetCode-level problems), strong CS fundamentals like operating systems, DBMS, and networks, and solid projects or internship experience. Freshers usually enter through campus placements or off-campus applications — entry-level openings for recent graduates are often listed under titles like Software Engineer Early Career Campus. Referrals from current employees significantly improve your chances of getting shortlisted, so build your LinkedIn network, prepare for 2–3 months before interviews, and don't be discouraged by rejections — most engineers apply more than once before getting in."}]}}]] 22:null 26:[["$","title","0",{"children":"1:1 Mentorship with Wasim Ahmed"}],["$","meta","1",{"name":"description","content":"1:1 Mentorship with Wasim Ahmed · 1:1 Call · 20 mins · ₹150 · Topmate"}],["$","link","2",{"rel":"manifest","href":"/manifest.json","crossOrigin":"$undefined"}],["$","meta","3",{"name":"robots","content":"index, follow"}],["$","link","4",{"rel":"canonical","href":"https://topmate.io/wasimahmed/52889"}],["$","meta","5",{"name":"yandex-verification","content":"0c572762b08c1459"}],["$","meta","6",{"name":"facebook-domain-verification","content":"xewq3sfwoskylhfigrhakv2hy7zemf"}],["$","meta","7",{"property":"og:title","content":"1:1 Mentorship with Wasim Ahmed"}],["$","meta","8",{"property":"og:description","content":"1:1 Mentorship with Wasim Ahmed · 1:1 Call · 20 mins · ₹150 · Topmate"}],["$","meta","9",{"property":"og:url","content":"https://topmate.io/wasimahmed/52889"}],["$","meta","10",{"property":"og:image","content":"https://topmate.io/cdn-cgi/image/width=1600,fit=contain,quality=90/https://res.cloudinary.com/topmate/image/upload/v1678536073/services_sharable/Temp_message_qaazb2.jpg?ogv=2"}],["$","meta","11",{"property":"og:type","content":"website"}],["$","meta","12",{"name":"twitter:card","content":"summary_large_image"}],["$","meta","13",{"name":"twitter:title","content":"1:1 Mentorship with Wasim Ahmed"}],["$","meta","14",{"name":"twitter:description","content":"1:1 Mentorship with Wasim Ahmed · 1:1 Call · 20 mins · ₹150 · Topmate"}],["$","meta","15",{"name":"twitter:image","content":"https://topmate.io/cdn-cgi/image/width=1600,fit=contain,quality=90/https://res.cloudinary.com/topmate/image/upload/v1678536073/services_sharable/Temp_message_qaazb2.jpg?ogv=2"}],["$","link","16",{"rel":"shortcut icon","href":"/favicon.svg"}],["$","link","17",{"rel":"icon","href":"/favicon.svg","type":"image/svg+xml"}],["$","link","18",{"rel":"apple-touch-icon","href":"/favicon.svg"}],["$","$L2d","19",{}]]
