About me

Hello! 👋🏽 My name is Ume, and I’m a first-gen immigrant & undergraduate student at the University of Maryland! I have a strong background in computer science, with major areas of focus being frontend development (ReactJS, Node, JavaScript), backend development (Java, Groovy, RubyOnRails), Mobile App Development (Swift), and teaching CS cirriculum (Web Dev + Mobile App Dev) to underrepresented individuals! I’m also experienced in C, Unix, R, assembly language, Ruby, and Python. I love to try new things, and go outside of my comfort zone when it comes to experimenting with different roles. Currently, I’m working as a Content & Community intern at Kode with Klossy, where I’m tasked with all things content creation, community building, brand updating, filming, managing, and lots of administrative tasks for community development across the globe. I have gained full stack software engineering experience through my various internships at Cisco, J.P Morgan Chase & Co, and Estée Lauder Companies. This upcoming summer, I’m joining Microsoft as a backend software engineer. Outside of engineering, I have ~3 years of experience in tech consulting—offering services to brands such as Airfare Pouch, BAE Systems, & TerrapinWorks. I aim to make the world around me a better place to be, to work, and to exist in! On the side, I provide mentorship to college students who identify as women and non binary invdividuals around the globe—helping them break into tech and acting as a resource whenever they need! I am also a public speaker, and have taken the stage at Google’s DevFest NYC in November of 2023. I’ve also served on panels for NCWIT and Kode With Klossy, was a speaker series co-host for Kode With Klossy, and will be keynoting PHP[tek] this April! I am very much people centered, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
