I am first, and foremost, a physicist. By that, I mean that I solve quantitative problems for a living. That is my brand. I classify myself as a physicist because I am naturally fascinated and curious about mathematical problems no matter what the conceptual subject matter happens to be. It is also easier to explain to people when I am asked the question "What do you do for a living?". The types of mathematical problems I have solved in my career are varied. The methods used to solve the problems I have encountered are my research, and they are many and scattered. My view of research is quite simple; if you don't know it, learn it; then the problem will be answered. In academia, my research interests focused on clean energy; photovoltaics, specifically. Since leaving academia, I have focused on financial models and quantitative research in risk and investor behavior. I am, now, actively trying to learn more about, and find work relating to, algorithmic trading. As a short side project, I got to try my hand at creating hedging strategies for eFX algorithmic trading, and I became enthralled with how robust and complicated the mathematics for this is. When I am not solving problems for work, I am often solving them for play. I still tinker with unsolved problems in mathematics and physics, simply to find out if there is anything new to be learned. I do this because I like figuring things out. I didn't choose physics; physics chose me. Outside of math and physics, I used to be an avid athlete. That, sadly, has taken a back seat since my son was born; I now spend my time trying to teach him the joys of mathematics and athletics.
