There are two hearts beating in my chest: Intelligent machines are as fascinating as human emotions. As an industrial engineer, I was able to accompany and take responsibility for optimization projects at manufacturing companies for many years. Industry 4.0, Big Data, IIoT and Machine Learning are not just buzzwords for me. In addition to automation and digitization of blue color work (physical activities), I am especially interested in the automation and digitization of white color work (cognitive activities). As a business psychologist, I am deeply convinced that no matter how good a technology may be, if it is not designed for – and in the best case, with – the people using it, it will hardly have any impact. A technology that makes an activity functionally easier but emotionally harder will not be successful in any company. That is why I pay special attention to the interaction between technology and people. With passion I design the interaction and cooperation between people and technology in such a way that it functionally relieves people from monotone tasks and at the same time makes them feel good emotionally. In my eyes, we have reached a tipping point where a human perceives these technologies as a social counterpart rather than a tool. Generative AI and Conversational AI have the potential to free many people from mental routine tasks – given it is designed to be embraced. That’s exactly my mission!
