Frequently asked questions
What are coding interview questions?
Coding interview questions are problems that test your ability to solve a real problem using code, usually within 30–45 minutes. In India, a typical SDE hiring process has 2–4 such rounds covering data structures and algorithms — arrays, strings, linked lists, trees, graphs, and dynamic programming — plus follow-ups on time and space complexity. Service companies and startups may also test CS fundamentals like OOP, DBMS, and OS. Interviewers judge both your final solution and how you think through the problem out loud.
How to prepare for a DSA interview?
Give yourself 8–12 weeks and follow a topic-wise sequence: arrays and strings, hashing, two pointers and sliding window, linked lists, stacks and queues, trees, heaps, graphs, and finally dynamic programming. Solve around 200–250 quality problems on LeetCode or GeeksforGeeks, maintain notes of every mistake, and time-box each problem to 30–40 minutes before looking at the solution. In the last 2–3 weeks, shift to mock interviews and company-specific archives. A written weekly roadmap keeps you consistent, which is where most self-preparation fails.
How to approach coding interview questions?
Use a fixed framework for every problem: restate the question and ask clarifying questions about input size, constraints, and edge cases; explain a brute-force solution first with its complexity; identify the underlying pattern (hashing, two pointers, BFS/DFS, DP); optimise step by step; dry-run your solution on an example; and only then write clean code while stating time and space complexity. Thinking aloud throughout is critical, because interviewers evaluate your reasoning even if the final code has a small bug.
Which coding interview preparation websites should I use?
For Indian product-company preparation, LeetCode and GeeksforGeeks cover most of what you need — LeetCode for topic-wise and company-tagged practice, and GeeksforGeeks for company-wise archives and interview experiences shared by Indian candidates. Add InterviewBit for structured tracks and HackerRank, since many Indian companies conduct their online tests there. Avoid juggling too many platforms; two websites used deeply beat six used shallowly.
Is a coding interview preparation course worth it?
It depends on your discipline level. If you can consistently follow a plan, free resources like LeetCode and GeeksforGeeks are enough. A course or mentor makes sense when you need structure, accountability, doubt-solving, and personalised feedback — especially close to placement season. What rarely works is passively watching recorded lectures without solving problems yourself. For most students, a self-made roadmap combined with a few 1:1 mentoring or mock interview sessions gives better returns than a large batch course.
Is freeCodeCamp good for coding interview prep?
FreeCodeCamp is a good free starting point, particularly its algorithm and data structure sections, which build logic using JavaScript or Python. However, Indian product-company interviews are heavily DSA-focused and expect you to solve LeetCode-style problems in a language of your choice while discussing complexity, so freeCodeCamp alone is not enough. Use it to strengthen fundamentals, then move to LeetCode and GeeksforGeeks, and add mock interviews before the real rounds.
Should I use Python for coding interview prep?
Yes. Python is accepted by almost every company, including product-based ones, and its short syntax lets you focus on logic instead of boilerplate. Be comfortable with lists, dictionaries, sets, heapq, and recursion limits before your interviews. The only exception is when a specific company's online test restricts language options, so verify beforehand. Whichever language you choose, stick with it through your entire preparation rather than switching midway.
Are GeeksforGeeks DSA interview questions enough to crack product companies?
GeeksforGeeks DSA interview questions are excellent for company-wise archives, commonly asked problems, and real Indian interview experiences, which makes them great for targeted revision. However, product companies often twist standard problems to test whether you truly understand the pattern, so memorising answers backfires. Use GeeksforGeeks to identify which patterns a company frequently asks, then build genuine depth by solving and analysing those patterns yourself on LeetCode.
Where can I find DSA interview questions and answers for freshers?
Start with GeeksforGeeks' commonly asked and company-wise DSA interview questions and answers for freshers, then practice LeetCode's Top Interview 150 and InterviewBit's structured tracks. For fresher rounds in India, the highest-weightage topics are arrays, strings, hashing, linked lists, stacks and queues, trees, and basic graphs and dynamic programming. Focus on understanding the approach and complexity behind every solution rather than mugging answers, because interviewers quickly expose rote learning through follow-up variations.
Should I prepare from a DSA interview questions PDF?
A DSA interview questions PDF is useful for last-minute revision in the final week before an interview, but it should never be your primary resource. PDFs encourage memorising solutions, while interviews test whether you can derive an approach for an unseen problem. Prepare topic-wise on LeetCode or GeeksforGeeks, maintain your own one-page sheet of patterns and mistakes, and use PDFs only to cross-check that you have covered the commonly asked company questions.
How to review my resume with ChatGPT?
Paste your resume along with the target job description into ChatGPT and prompt it to act as a hiring manager for that SDE role — ask it to flag weak bullet points, missing keywords, formatting problems, and to rewrite bullets using action verbs and quantified impact. Run a second pass specifically for ATS keyword gaps. Remember that AI feedback is generic and cannot judge the depth of your projects, so pair it with one 1:1 review from a mentor who has cleared interviews at product companies.
Is LinkedIn resume review worth it?
Reviews from LinkedIn, Indeed, or free AI tools are useful as a first pass — they catch formatting issues, missing keywords, and obvious red flags within seconds. What they cannot tell you is whether an SDE hiring panel would find your projects convincing, since their feedback is generic. A practical approach for Indian students: run free automated checks, get inputs from seniors, and if you are still not getting interview calls, invest once in a paid 1:1 review from someone who has cracked the roles you are targeting.
What is blind resume review?
Blind resume review is common in Indian campus placements and some hiring drives, where evaluators see resumes with your name, college, gender, and other identity details removed, so the decision is based only on skills, projects, internships, and achievements. For you, this means brand names cannot carry your resume — quantified project impact, relevant skills, and certifications have to do the heavy lifting. Reviewing your resume as if the evaluator knows nothing about you is a good way to stress-test it.
How long do resume reviews take?
Automated tools review a resume in seconds but give only surface-level feedback. Reviews from seniors or friends can take a day to a week and are often superficial. Structured 1:1 resume reviews usually happen as a 30–60 minute call or take 2–4 days for detailed written feedback. If placement season or an application deadline is near, book your review well in advance so you have time to implement the suggested changes before applying.
Are mock interviews worth it?
Yes, because the gap between solving problems alone and solving them live under pressure is where most candidates lose offers. A mock interview trains you to think aloud, handle hints, manage the 30–45 minute clock, and answer "tell me about yourself" and project questions smoothly, while also reducing real-interview anxiety. Do at least two or three before placement season, ideally conducted by someone who has cleared interviews at your target companies, since experienced mentors catch communication gaps that practising with friends usually misses.
