About me

An Avid Learner and a Passionate Engineer. I graduated from the Professional Master's program in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Embedded Systems Engineering and Internet of Things at the University of Colorado Boulder's College of Engineering & Applied Sciences. My education has equipped me comprehensively with essential embedded technologies, current tools, and industry trends. As a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder, I immersed myself in the intricacies of 3D printing technology, offering novel insights and contributing to the development of advanced systems. My work involved writing device driver code in C/C++, encompassing protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART—an experience that sharpened my firmware development acumen. I specialize in firmware and software development, leveraging a deep knowledge of C, C++, and embedded Linux kernel programming using Yocto and Buildroot, including driver development, integrating patches and recipe generation. My experience includes Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), bare metal programming, and scripting with Bash and Python. I have worked extensively with microcontrollers such as STM32, 8051, Raspberry Pi 3B+, Silicon Labs EFR32 Blue Gecko and FRDM KL25Z. My technical skill set covers a broad array of communication protocols like BLE, I2C, SPI, UART, Wi-Fi (TCP/IP), Ethernet and USB, along with peripheral management including GPIO and timers. I am proficient in version control with Git and project management using Agile methodologies. Whether it's developing for IoT devices or handling complex embedded systems, my comprehensive expertise ensures efficient and reliable solutions. As an avid reader, I often immerse myself in fiction. Writing fuels my creativity and deepens my empathy, connecting me with the world. As an athlete, I’ve honed my resilience through six years of professional Karate training, earning a Black Belt. Long-distance running has instilled discipline, perseverance, and mental toughness, teaching me to navigate discomfort and push through challenges. Working out at least five times a week keeps me disciplined and focused. I seek out adventure and take risks to live life to the fullest. I believe limits are there to be broken. I strive to push above and beyond my limits. Feel free to email me at Swathi.Venkatachalam@colorado.edu or reach out to connect!
