About me

Simon Board is an educational specialist in the area of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. Over a period of over 20 years, he has led, developed and grown future-focused and collaborative PDHPE departments at St Aloysius College, Barker College, Loreto Kirribilli, Northern Beaches Christian School, International Grammar School and is currently employed at Kambala. Internationally, he has taught in the UK and the USA and explored innovative teaching practices at several institutions through a Victorian educational immersion throughout 2017. His passion for curriculum and innovation has led to involvement in PhD projects focused on Teaching Games for Understanding, Harvard Teaching for Understanding leadership projects and most recently the Blurred Minds Virtual reality project with Dr Timo Dietrich at Griffith University. Simon was selected by NESA to write the new syllabus resources for the K-10 curriculum and continued to assist NESA through the development of additional units to support the syllabus introduction. His selection as NSW IEU PDHPE representative in 2017 led to involvement on the NESA Board Curriculum Committee which throughout 2017, 2018 and 2019 reviewed the Stage 6 PDHPE syllabus. Simon has furthered his leadership capacities as an Executive Member of the PDHPE Teachers Association, involved in the development of key strategic policy in PDHPE and the development of the annual conference to drive best practices in PDHPE in NSW. Simon also serves as an Educational Consultant writing for several external organisations including the writing of Independent Trial Examinations, marking of HSC exams, writing for private organisations wanting to integrate with the new syllabus developments including recently selected to write syllabus content for the Cancer Institute Schools Syllabus Project and the Open Parachute Mental Health School program. He has recently undertaken the writing of HPE units on Poverty and the Danny Green "Stop the Coward Punch Campaign" for Cool Australia. In addition, his appointment as Subject Specialist for ATOMI Educational Institution has provided an overarching role of supporting the development of the newly introduced year 7-10 Educational Programs. He is currently a Sessional Lecturer at Charles Sturt University leading units on Master units in Mentoring, Educational Leadership and PDHPE and Outdoor Education units. Simon’s leadership experiences are reinforced by his completion of a Master of Leadership and Management in Education from Newcastle University.
