About me
I'm Sukhmani (she/her), Founder & Psychotherapist at Seek with Sukhmani. As an individual graduating with Master of Arts (MA) in Applied Psychology, from Jamia Millia Islamia (Batch of '23), I'm eager to embark as a mental health professional. My undergraduate education of Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology, Economics, and English Literature, at Mount Carmel College (Batch of '21), taught me the value of viewing things as interconnected and overlapping rather than isolated.
I'm a firm believer in deconstructing systemically orthodox, oppressive forces. Perhaps, I'm an anti-capitalist, a feminist, and queer affirmative individual which would eventually reflect in my professional practice as a mental health professional soon. My strengths lie in my ability to empathize, being open-minded and self-disciplined, sticking strongly with ethical guidelines in the face of crisis situations, and in detailed analysis while weighing pros and cons.
As a mental health professional, I strive to view mental health through an intersectional lens, recognizing the complex ways in which different aspects of identity can impact an individual's well-being. I'm particularly passionate about exploring the nuances of gender, caste, and class with regard to mental health, as I believe that understanding these intersections is crucial to providing effective and culturally sensitive care. I'd like to make mental health more accessible and reduce the blanket of stigma surrounding it. I believe that by fostering a culture of openness and understanding, we can create a more supportive and inclusive society that values mental health as an integral part of overall wellness.
I'm an HSP, which acts as a strength for me; it allows me for bringing more empathy, sensitivity, and balance into the world. Being an HSP has opened the doors for me to be naturally intuitive; I appreciate works of art, nature, and good music. Rather than limiting myself to a specific culture or place, I consider myself to be cosmopolitan since I've lived in different states of the country since childhood. Outside of work, I'm artistic - writing poetry, making candles, organizing and decorating corners of my home, and scrapbooking. I love working for animal welfare, and dogs are my best buddies! I'm someone who's often striving to be more aware, sensitive, and empathetic.
