Research Proposal Review (async, written feedback)

Priority DM

Get detailed, written feedback on your research proposal or Statement of Purpose for admission to the Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS), School of International Studies, JNU, from a current Doctoral Research Scholar in the same centre.

This service is exclusively for applicants targeting CSAS, JNU. If your area of interest lies within South Asian politics, foreign policy, regional security, political economy, or related themes covered by CSAS faculty, this review is built specifically for your needs.

This is for you if you are:

  1. Applying to CSAS for an M.Phil/PhD and need your research proposal reviewed before submission
  2. Unsure whether your proposed research question is appropriately scoped and aligned with CSAS's specific academic orientation
  3. Struggling to articulate the theoretical framework, significance, or literature review section of your proposal
  4. Wanting an honest, centre-specific assessment of your SOP rather than generic proposal-writing advice
  5. Looking to strengthen your proposal's alignment with the research interests and expertise of CSAS faculty before finalising your submission

What you will receive:

  1. A detailed written critique of your research proposal or SOP, covering structure, clarity of the research problem, theoretical grounding, and methodological soundness
  2. Specific feedback on alignment with CSAS's academic focus areas (South Asian states, regional politics, foreign policy, security, and political economy)
  3. Suggestions on strengthening your literature review and identifying gaps your proposal could more clearly address
  4. Comments on language, academic tone, and overall presentation
  5. Practical suggestions on revisions, prioritised by what will most improve your proposal's competitiveness.

How it works:

  1. Share your draft proposal (Word document, Please follow SIS Manual 2025 edition) along with your specific area of interest within South Asian Studies
  2. You will receive detailed written feedback within 72 hours
  3. This is a one-time written review; it does not include a live call or multiple rounds of revision unless separately arranged.

This review is grounded in direct, current experience of CSAS's academic culture, faculty expectations, and the admission process itself, not generic proposal-writing templates.

Please note that this service is specific to CSAS and may not adequately address the distinct expectations of other SIS centres, CPS, or CSLG.
