It’s absolutely true that you are the average of the top 5 people you hang out with. And it’s especially true when you are young and a little gullible. I came to Canada to pursue my Master's in Mechanical Engineering. When I started working full-time after graduation, I financed an old not-so-good 2011 Ford Fiesta. Why? Because everyone around me was doing it after uni. But as it was old, it started having engine issues within the first year. Luckily, I switched around this time & got a better, high-paying job. With more money coming in, I financed a new car by replacing the old Ford. More money --> More expenses Now I had become debt-rich. But I was always on time with my payments and never felt a shortage of money to pay off my bills. Still, somehow, I felt disconnected from myself. I felt unfulfilled & not very happy. I saw my friends who were earning more than me – not happy! I saw super wealthy people over 45 years – still not happy! Here, I noticed a pattern - earning more isn’t the answer if one doesn’t know how to manage their money. If earning more meant spending more, then I’ll always be debt-rich. And we all know that omnipresent fear of being in debt. It just won’t let us free, mentally. Hence our quality of life drops, even with more money. Ironic, right? I understood the pattern here and started reading books about money! My first one (like everyone) was Rich Dad Poor Dad & it helped me take the road not taken (iykyk) I kept learning about money, attending events, finding mentors And soon, I had developed a great passion for finance! Today, I help people manage their money better. And do you know what makes me the proudest? That I never charge anything from my clients. I feel proud & privileged that I’m able to help people become debt-free and enjoy the money they have hard-earned. Like I said, you are the average of the top 5 people you hang out with.
