This isn't a journaling prompt. It's not a vision board exercise.

It's a structured audit that runs your goal through five diagnostic phases and produces a scored verdict: KEEP, REFRAME, PAUSE, or DROP.

Most people who can't make a career decision aren't missing information they're running the wrong variables. They're measuring risk when the real blocker is psychological load. They're calling it "lack of discipline" when the goal was never actually theirs to begin with.

The Goal Autopsy finds the actual variable.

The 5 phases:

Phase 1: Problem Ownership - Is this goal yours, or was it installed by someone else? Family pressure, prestige logic, and social comparison all produce goals that feel real but drain you on contact. This phase finds the origin.

Phase 2: Origin Audit - Where did this goal come from? Genuine desire, fear of a different outcome, or external validation? Most people have never asked this question directly. This phase forces the answer.

Phase 3: Resistance Mapping - Why haven't you moved yet? This phase separates legitimate risk from psychological load the most conflated variables in any stuck decision.

Phase 4: Decision Scoring - Your goal runs through the Decision Score formula: S = A − (R + Re + P). Alignment minus the cost variables. The output is a number with a verdict tier. No more going in circles.

Phase 5: The 7-Day Move - One concrete action. One success condition. A defined test that tells you within a week whether the direction is real

The framework is designed to be self-administered. The majority of people who complete all 5 phases walk away with a verdict they couldn't reach in months of thinking alone. That said, the diagnostic surfaces things. What you do with what it surfaces is a different problem. If you want the framework interpreted against your specific situation, with the one who built it sitting across from you, that option exists. But the workbook works without it.

Who this is for:

You've been circling one career decision for more than 60 days. You've made pros and cons lists. You've talked to people. You still haven't moved. You suspect the real blocker isn't what you think it is.

Run the diagnostic yourself and you'll find the variable. Work through it with the person who built the system and you'll know what to do with it. Both are valid entry points. Start with the workbook.

The Goal Autopsy is complete as a standalone tool. It was built to work without handholding. What it can't do on its own is interpret edge cases the situations where two variables score identically or where the Ownership Override mechanism applies but isn't obvious. If you hit that wall, there's a path forward. For now, start here.
