Most DBA candidates lose interviews not on knowledge but on how they present it — a CV that buries the impact, or answers that are technically correct but don't land with the panel. This session combines a line-by-line CV review with mock-interview-style prep, drawing on 7+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL/EPAS, MySQL, and MongoDB experience across support, enterprise, and finance-sector roles, plus experience mentoring junior DBAs and being on the hiring/screening side of technical rounds.

You'll leave with a stronger CV, a plan for how to talk about your project experience, and a curated set of likely interview questions with guidance on how to structure your answers.

What we'll cover

CV Review

  • Structure and formatting — what recruiters and technical panels actually scan for first
  • Positioning certifications (EDB, etc.) and tools/products correctly for the role you're targeting

Interview Preparation

  • How to structure answers for scenario-based questions (STAR-style, but adapted for technical incident stories)
  • Common gaps in how DBAs explain HA/DR, replication, and performance tuning experience — and how to fix them
  • How to talk about incidents/outages without sounding defensive

Interview Question Bank (provided at the end of the session) A curated set of real-world DBA interview questions across:

  • PostgreSQL/EPAS — replication & HA (streaming, logical, Patroni/EFM/Repmgr), backup & recovery (Barman/pgBackRest), performance tuning, pg_upgrade & migrations, security/RBAC
  • MySQL/Percona — replication topologies, InnoDB internals, slow query analysis, backup strategy (XtraBackup)
  • MongoDB — replica sets vs sharded clusters, backup/restore, security & RBAC
  • Behavioral/scenario — incident response, on-call war stories, working with cross-functional teams, mentoring

What you'll get

  • A personalized interview-prep strategy based on your target role level
  • A written question bank (30+ questions) with guidance notes, delivered at the end of the session
  • Optional: a mock-Q&A round during the call itself if time allows

Who this is for

DBAs (junior to senior) preparing for interviews, professionals switching from support roles into senior/lead DBA tracks, or anyone who wants their CV and interview story to actually reflect their real experience.

What to bring

  • Your current CV (any format)
  • Any past interview questions you've been asked and struggled with
