I am an interactive teacher and strongly believes that learning is enriched through collaboration. My area of interest is English Language Education. I did a PG diploma course in teaching of English (PGDTE) from English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. This course molded my attitude towards teaching and developed a sense of passion in learner-centered approach.
My teaching career started in November, 2014 and continued till July, 2019. The five years of teaching experience helped me to understand the disadvantaged learners' plight in learning the language skills. Also, a deep interest developed towards phonetics and soft skills. I understood that practicing the target language is highly essential for the non-native speakers and language lab plays a crucial role in developing the same. In 2017, I was selected for a pilot project initiated by APSCHE (Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education) in collaboration with British Council, India. For 12 days I was given training in communication skills, reflective teaching, communicative approach, and continuing professional development. After receiving the rigorous training, I was entitled for the post 'Master Trainer' and supposed to train lecturers of various engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. This experience tremendously helped me in classroom teaching.
My research journey started in 2019 July. I enrolled for PhD in Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar. The previous teaching experience motivated me to select disadvantaged learners as the sample of my research study. I felt that tertiary level learners require cognitive and metacognitive skills in presenting their thoughts effectively. For this purpose, I selected writing skill as the medium and developed the learners' writing performance through pre-writing strategy Instruction. In 3.5 years of my research journey I published five peer reviewed international journals. I graduated from IIT Bhubaneswar on May 8, 2023. At present I am working as Assistant Professor in Siksha O' Anusandhan Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar.
I worked as soft skills trainer for a period of three years side by side along with my teaching. I have also acted as a trainer for the Certificate Course on Soft Skills organized by Employability Skills Centre of Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation during the year 2018-2019. During my PhD journey at IIT Bhubaneswar I have trained three batches of M.Tech. EEE (2020-2022) on a voluntary basis. All of the 66 trainees got placed in well established companies.
Praised for insightful, effective guidance, Ramya boosts confidence and expertise in professional growth.
