Rai Sengupta works as a Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant at Ecorys UK. She holds an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention (Distinction) from the University of Oxford, where she pursued her studies as a fully funded Weidenfeld Hoffmann Scholar. She also holds a Bachelor's degree (First Division) in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. Rai brings over four years of experience in monitoring and evaluating large scale development programmes across the world, in partnership with governments (NITI Aayog, Government of India), and bilateral agencies (FCDO, GIZ) and multilateral organisations (UNICEF, ADB). While studying at Oxford, she worked as a Consultant with the Asian Development Bank where she helped build statistical capacity across APAC countries, including Indonesia and India. She also worked at Invest India – India’s premier investment promotion agency – and contributed to strategic research for the Ministry of Women and Child Development in India. Prior to this, Rai has worked at an international development consultancy IPE Global. Here, she has conducted pan-country evaluations of 24 national programmes implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, and the Ministry of Rural Development in India - including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the world’s largest public works programme. Her contributions to evaluating a maternal and child cash transfer programme in Myanmar have garnered a ‘Highly Satisfactory’ rating from UNICEF, and she has been instrumental in analysing the UK Government's (FCDO) portfolio of development programmes in Zimbabwe. Rai is passionate about youth-led change and has led workshops on human rights and sustainable development at schools and colleges in partnership with Amnesty International India, reaching out to over 7000 students across her country. A firm believer in the power of social entrepreneurship, Rai volunteered with the international non-profit Enactus during college and helped to build sustainable livelihoods for erstwhile manual scavengers, low-income puppeteers, and women dairy farmers in India.
