Resume Template — LaTeX & Overleaf Guide

Thank you for purchasing this resume template!

This package includes a professionally designed, ATS-friendly resume template along with the complete LaTeX source code so you can easily customize it for your own career profile.

1. What You Need

To edit the LaTeX version of this resume, you don't need to install any software.

We recommend using Overleaf, an online LaTeX editor.

Go to:

https://www.overleaf.com/

Create a free account and log in.

2. How to Edit Your Resume Using Overleaf

Step 1 — Open Overleaf

Visit Overleaf.com and create an account or log in to your existing account.

Step 2 — Create a New Project

After logging in:

  1. Click New Project
  2. Select Blank Project
  3. Give your project a name, for example:
  4. My Professional Resume

Step 3 — Open the LaTeX Code

You will receive the .tex source code with this product.

Open the .tex file using a text editor such as Notepad or VS Code.

Select and copy the entire LaTeX code.

Do not copy only a portion of the code.

Step 4 — Paste the Code into Overleaf

In your new Overleaf project:

  1. Open the main.tex file.
  2. Select the existing code.
  3. Delete it.
  4. Paste the complete LaTeX code you received with this product.

Your Overleaf editor should now contain the complete resume code.

Step 5 — Compile the Resume

Click Recompile in Overleaf.

Overleaf will compile your LaTeX code and generate a PDF preview of your resume.

If the code is pasted correctly, your resume should appear in the preview window.

3. How to Edit Your Information

You don't need to understand LaTeX to make basic changes.

Simply look for the existing information in the code and replace it with your own information.

For example:

Name

Find:

John Doe

Replace it with:

Your Name

Job Title

Find:

Data Analyst

Replace it with your target job title, such as:

Senior Data Analyst

Email

Find the existing email address and replace it with your own email.

LinkedIn

Replace the existing LinkedIn URL with your LinkedIn profile.

GitHub

Replace the existing GitHub URL with your GitHub profile.

4. Editing Your Experience

Find the Experience section in the code.

You will see existing placeholder information.

Replace:

  • Company name
  • Job title
  • Employment dates
  • Location
  • Responsibilities
  • Achievements

Important

Whenever possible, write experience bullets around:

Action + What You Did + Technology/Method + Business Impact

For example:

Instead of:

Worked on Power BI dashboards.

Use:

Developed Power BI dashboards to automate management reporting, reducing manual reporting effort by 40%.

Focus on measurable achievements whenever possible.

5. Editing Your Skills

Find the Skills section.

Replace the existing technologies with your own relevant skills.

For example:

Languages: Python, SQL

BI & Visualization: Power BI, Tableau

Cloud: Azure, AWS

Data: Databricks, Spark, Snowflake

Only include skills that you actually know and can discuss during an interview.

6. Adding Projects

If you are a student, fresher, or have limited professional experience, projects can strengthen your resume.

For each project, mention:

  • Project name
  • Technologies used
  • What you built
  • Your contribution
  • Business/technical impact

Try to avoid writing only a list of technologies.

Instead of:

Python, SQL, Power BI project.

Write:

Built a sales analytics dashboard using SQL and Power BI to identify revenue trends, customer segments, and underperforming regions.

7. Adding or Removing Sections

The template may contain sections such as:

  • Summary
  • Experience
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Projects
  • Certifications
  • Achievements

You can remove sections that are not relevant to your profile.

For example, if you have substantial professional experience, you may not need a large Projects section.

If you are a fresher, you may want to give more space to Projects, Certifications, and Education.

8. How to Download Your Resume

Once you are happy with your resume:

  1. Click Recompile
  2. Review the PDF preview carefully.
  3. Click the PDF/download option in Overleaf.
  4. Save the final resume as a PDF.

Recommended File Name

Use a professional file name:

FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf

Example:

Rahul_Maurya_Resume.pdf

Avoid names such as:

  • resume_final.pdf
  • resume_final_final.pdf
  • new_resume_latest.pdf

9. Important ATS Guidelines

To keep your resume ATS-friendly:

Do:

  • Use standard section headings.
  • Use simple, readable formatting.
  • Include relevant keywords from the job description.
  • Quantify achievements wherever possible.
  • Keep information concise.
  • Proofread your resume before applying.
  • Customize your resume for important job applications.

Avoid:

  • Adding fake skills or experience.
  • Using excessive graphics.
  • Adding unnecessary information.
  • Using very small fonts.
  • Filling the resume with keywords without context.
  • Including technologies you cannot explain in an interview.

11. Important Note About LaTeX

For basic customization, you can simply replace the placeholder information with your own details.

If you are comfortable with LaTeX, you can also modify:

  • Font sizes
  • Spacing
  • Colors
  • Section headings
  • Margins
  • Icons
  • Layout
  • Additional sections

Always keep a backup copy of the original code before making major changes.

12. Quick Workflow

The complete process is:

Download the LaTeX code → Open Overleaf → Create Blank Project → Open main.tex → Paste the complete code → Recompile → Replace placeholder information → Review PDF → Download → Apply

That's it!
