The human brain is a crazy place, and they are two things that fascinate me the most about valuation and strategic management in Investment banking. First, the concept of valuation and how rational yet irrational it can be. And the second: the challenge of communicating the story behind the number in a way that persuades and convinces the client always requires optimization - so you're optimizing something which is both rational and irrational to seal the deal. A few of my core skills are highlighted below: Discounted Cashflows - I strangely use a risk-free discount rate to discount certain cashflows Relative Valuation - Though commonly used, they derive their basis from underlying fundamentals Accretion and dilution - Helps me to understand if a transaction increased the EPS or otherwise Negotiation and persuasion skills - definitely can help you put an edge in closing deals which might come in handy VBA and Python Quote to live by “We need to be thinking about tomorrow.
