• Accidental Managers: Last manager resigned and with no one to take the postion you get promoted
• Manager by Promotion: You have been working for long in the company and they have no other choice but to promote you
• Manager By choice: You are so into the the management and prepare well in advance before taking that role.

I became a manager by choice in 2011 with just 8 years of experience and that too in Technology. I cracked my PMP exam in first attemp and then there was no looking back
