2d:T606,I’m a full stack developer who enjoys building practical and user friendly applications using React, Node.js, Next.js, and the MERN stack. Lately, I’ve also been exploring AI and how it can be applied in real projects. My journey into tech became more real during Hacktoberfest 2023. What started as a small step into open source turned into something I genuinely enjoy. It helped me learn from others, collaborate with developers across the world, and support beginners who are just getting started. Since then, I’ve contributed to and mentored in programs like GSSoC, SSOC, and C4GT. I’m also a Top 1 percent mentor on Topmate, where I guide students on open source, projects, and career direction. I was selected as a Google Women Techmakers Ambassador and became a finalist in the Google Gen AI Exchange Hackathon 2024. My work has been featured at Times Square NYC, and I’ve spoken on international podcasts about tech, learning, and community. I’ve also written technical content for CoderArmy and continue to share insights through articles and public posts. LinkedIn has recognized my work with Top Voice badges as well as Golden Badges in areas like research, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication. I completed my MCA from Chandigarh University in 2023. I’m always trying to improve by building new things, learning better ways to solve problems, and staying consistent. If you want to collaborate, learn together, or need guidance in your tech journey, feel free to reach out at kumaripayal7488@gmail.com1e:[[["$","$L10",null,{"id":"meta-pixel-3659591550929113","strategy":"afterInteractive","children":"!function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s)\n{if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function(){n.callMethod?\nn.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.push(arguments)};\nif(!f._fbq)f._fbq=n;n.push=n;n.loaded=!0;n.version='2.0';\nn.queue=[];t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0;\nt.src=v;s=b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0];\ns.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)}(window,document,'script',\n'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/fbevents.js');\nfbq('init','3659591550929113');\nfbq('track','PageView');"}],["$","noscript",null,{"children":"$29"}]],["$","script",null,{"type":"application/ld+json","dangerouslySetInnerHTML":{"__html":"$2a"}}],["$","$L2b",null,{"service":{"id":1093916,"title":"Career guidance","description":"

Anyone can fork a repository, make changes, and submit a pull request, and maintainers may merge your work into the main project. Since all contributions show up on your GitHub profile, recruiters often check this activity while shortlisting candidates."},{"question":"How to start open source contribution as a beginner?","answer":"The easiest entry point is a beginner-focused program or event, such as Hacktoberfest or student programs like GSSoC and SSOC, where maintainers tag easy issues for newcomers. Pick repositories you already use, look for issues labelled \"good first issue\" or \"documentation,\" and start with small fixes before moving to code. Consistency matters more than the size of your first pull request."},{"question":"How to do open source contribution in GitHub?","answer":"Follow the standard workflow: find a repository with an open issue, comment to get it assigned, fork the repo, clone it locally, and create a separate branch for your fix. Commit your changes, push the branch to your fork, and open a pull request explaining what you changed and why. Respond to maintainer feedback until it gets merged — a merged PR is what counts as a verified contribution."},{"question":"What are some good open source contribution projects for beginners?","answer":"Good beginner projects are actively maintained repositories with a clear contributing guide and labels like \"good first issue\" or \"help wanted.\" Documentation fixes, UI improvements, writing tests, and small bug fixes are realistic starting points. Student-focused programs curate beginner-friendly projects, which also protects you from contributing to abandoned repositories."},{"question":"Which open source contribution programs are best for students in India?","answer":"Popular options include GSoC (Google Summer of Code, paid and competitive), GSSoC and SSOC (months-long and beginner friendly), Hacktoberfest in October, and C4GT. If you are completely new, GSSoC, SSOC, and Hacktoberfest are easier entry points, while GSoC usually comes after you already have a few merged contributions. Choose based on your tech stack and the mentoring quality of the participating organisations."},{"question":"How to put open source contributions on your resume?","answer":"Create a dedicated \"Open Source Contributions\" section listing the project name, what you did (bug fix, feature, documentation), a link to the pull request, and the outcome (merged, used in production). Merged PRs in recognised organisations carry far more weight than a count of closed issues, so link only your best work. Also mention any program participation or mentoring roles, as they show collaboration and communication skills."},{"question":"What is a good DSA roadmap for beginners?","answer":"Pick one language — C++, Java, or Python — and stick with it. Learn time complexity, arrays, and strings first, then move through linked lists, stacks, queues, recursion, trees, and graphs, and finish with dynamic programming and greedy problems. Follow each topic with focused practice on LeetCode — learn a concept, solve 15–20 problems on it, then revise. With consistent effort, most beginners need around 4–6 months to become placement-ready."},{"question":"Is DSA important for placements?","answer":"Yes. For most software roles in India, DSA is the primary filter in online assessment tests and technical interview rounds at both service-based and product-based companies. Product companies especially use DSA rounds to judge problem-solving under pressure. That said, it works alongside projects and core subjects like OS, DBMS, and networks — not as a replacement for them."},{"question":"How to prepare for a system design interview?","answer":"Build the fundamentals first: horizontal vs vertical scaling, load balancers, caching, SQL vs NoSQL, sharding, replication, and message queues. Then study how real applications are architected — URL shorteners, chat apps, news feeds, ride-sharing systems — because interviewers expect you to reason from real-world examples. If your DSA base is ready, give yourself 4–6 weeks of dedicated prep instead of cramming it in the final week."},{"question":"How to practice for a system design interview?","answer":"Practice out loud with a timer: pick a prompt such as \"design a rate limiter,\" spend 35–40 minutes designing it, then compare your approach with reference solutions. Doing timed mocks with a friend or mentor and reviewing each other's diagrams is far more effective than passively reading material. Aim to complete 8–10 full designs end to end before your actual interviews."},{"question":"How to approach a system design interview?","answer":"Use a repeatable structure: clarify requirements and constraints first (users, scale, latency), do quick back-of-envelope estimates, define the API, sketch the high-level design, and then deep-dive into database choices and bottlenecks. Keep discussing trade-offs as you go, since interviewers evaluate your reasoning more than your final diagram. Always ask clarifying questions instead of jumping straight into drawing boxes."},{"question":"What are the most common system design interview questions?","answer":"Frequently asked prompts include designing a URL shortener, a WhatsApp-style chat app, a Twitter/X news feed, Instagram, Uber, a BookMyShow-style ticket booking system, and a rate limiter. All of them test the same underlying concepts — caching, sharding, consistency, and handling read-heavy vs write-heavy traffic. Practising one design per concept covers most variations you will face."},{"question":"What is Grokking the System Design Interview?","answer":"It is a well-known preparation course that breaks system design into reusable patterns — back-of-envelope calculations, caching strategies, database scaling — and walks through classic designs like a URL shortener and WhatsApp. It is commonly used as a structured starting point when the topic feels overwhelming. Pair it with live practice designing systems yourself, since the interview requires you to build a design in real time, not just recall patterns."},{"question":"Is the System Design Interview by Alex Xu enough to crack interviews?","answer":"Alex Xu's books (Volume 1 and Volume 2) are a strong foundation because they teach a repeatable framework and cover common designs such as rate limiters, consistent hashing, and notification systems. For highly competitive roles, you would typically add mock practice and deeper distributed systems concepts on top. For campus and early-career interviews in India, the books combined with regular hands-on practice usually cover most of what is asked."},{"question":"How can beginners start learning generative AI?","answer":"Start by understanding how large language models work at a basic level, then get hands-on quickly: practise writing effective prompts, use an API to build something small like a summariser or chatbot, and pick up Python along the way. You do not need a heavy math or ML background to start building with generative AI. Completing one small working project teaches you more than weeks of theory."}]}}]] 21:null 2e:T401,https://topmate.io/cdn-cgi/image/width=1600,fit=contain,quality=90/https://res.cloudinary.com/topmate/image/upload/s--HSTJQIND--/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_500,l_text:Arial_130_bold:Career%20guidance,w_1300,x_350,y_380/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55:Checkout%20my%20offerings%20and%20book%20a%20slot%20at,w_1500,x_350,y_920/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55:-%3E%20topmate.io%252F,w_1000,x_350,y_1000/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55_bold:payal_kumari,w_1000,x_682,y_1000/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:video_nhkyzj,o_100,w_50,x_350,y_215/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:clock_ramnsz,o_100,w_50,x_800,y_215/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:1:1%20call,w_850,x_425,y_220/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:30%20mins,w_850,x_880,y_220/c_fit,g_north_west,h_400,l_uploadtopmate:profilepics:payal_kumari,o_100,w_400,x_1800,y_220/v1/services_sharable/share_base_vv5vv8.jpg?ogv=22f:T401,https://topmate.io/cdn-cgi/image/width=1600,fit=contain,quality=90/https://res.cloudinary.com/topmate/image/upload/s--HSTJQIND--/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_500,l_text:Arial_130_bold:Career%20guidance,w_1300,x_350,y_380/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55:Checkout%20my%20offerings%20and%20book%20a%20slot%20at,w_1500,x_350,y_920/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55:-%3E%20topmate.io%252F,w_1000,x_350,y_1000/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55_bold:payal_kumari,w_1000,x_682,y_1000/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:video_nhkyzj,o_100,w_50,x_350,y_215/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:clock_ramnsz,o_100,w_50,x_800,y_215/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:1:1%20call,w_850,x_425,y_220/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:30%20mins,w_850,x_880,y_220/c_fit,g_north_west,h_400,l_uploadtopmate:profilepics:payal_kumari,o_100,w_400,x_1800,y_220/v1/services_sharable/share_base_vv5vv8.jpg?ogv=225:[["$","title","0",{"children":"Career guidance with Payal Kumari"}],["$","meta","1",{"name":"description","content":"Career guidance with Payal Kumari · 1:1 Call · 30 mins · ₹175 · Topmate"}],["$","link","2",{"rel":"manifest","href":"/manifest.json","crossOrigin":"$undefined"}],["$","meta","3",{"name":"robots","content":"index, follow"}],["$","link","4",{"rel":"canonical","href":"https://topmate.io/payal_kumari/1093916"}],["$","meta","5",{"name":"yandex-verification","content":"0c572762b08c1459"}],["$","meta","6",{"name":"facebook-domain-verification","content":"xewq3sfwoskylhfigrhakv2hy7zemf"}],["$","meta","7",{"property":"og:title","content":"Career guidance with Payal Kumari"}],["$","meta","8",{"property":"og:description","content":"Career guidance with Payal Kumari · 1:1 Call · 30 mins · ₹175 · Topmate"}],["$","meta","9",{"property":"og:url","content":"https://topmate.io/payal_kumari/1093916"}],["$","meta","10",{"property":"og:image","content":"$2e"}],["$","meta","11",{"property":"og:type","content":"website"}],["$","meta","12",{"name":"twitter:card","content":"summary_large_image"}],["$","meta","13",{"name":"twitter:title","content":"Career guidance with Payal Kumari"}],["$","meta","14",{"name":"twitter:description","content":"Career guidance with Payal Kumari · 1:1 Call · 30 mins · ₹175 · Topmate"}],["$","meta","15",{"name":"twitter:image","content":"$2f"}],["$","link","16",{"rel":"shortcut icon","href":"/favicon.svg"}],["$","link","17",{"rel":"icon","href":"/favicon.svg","type":"image/svg+xml"}],["$","link","18",{"rel":"apple-touch-icon","href":"/favicon.svg"}],"$L30"]
