About me

Miti Desai, has been interweaving her disciplinary domains of design, dance and education across diverse projects in communication over the past couple of decades. Formal training in graphic design and professional practice in that led her to organically explore the intricacies of body design and design in space as expressed in a classical dance form like Mohiniattam (Dance form from Kerala, India). Several years of training and public performances of the dance opened up a pathway for her to connect to evolved structures and patterns of pedagogical transmission through systems of cultural knowledge, integrating aesthetic principles. This has, in turn, informed her interests in design, arts, ecology and education. She is the founder/creative head at Miti Design Lab, an interdisciplinary design studio, currently based out of Bengaluru, and is involved with multiple aspects of design – communicational, experiential, exhibition and social design. She has been recognised for excellence in ‘space design’ through awards in the past few years for her design of major exhibitions of visual artists and the thoughts of philosophers and educators. Her pedagogic practice includes having conducted courses in graphic design, communication design, spatial design, imagination, and innovation at institutions like Srishti Manipal Institute of Art Design & Technology-Bengaluru; D J Academy-Coimbatore; ISDI Parsons-Mumbai; Ecole Intuit Lab-Mumbai; MIT ID Pune-Symbiosis Pune among others. She is an alumnus and the Executive Trustee of Shaktiyogashrama Gurukulam, an educational and cultural centre near Pune, India. With a deep sense of community living, she engages with the idea of community stimulation to weave a more holistic society. Recipe of Hope, a volunteer-driven initiative which served the community in Bengaluru through home-cooked meals during the Covid crisis; is one of her dearest projects, born with the intention to sustain and serve. This initiative was an example of a design-led community welfare initiative which expanded from a team of two to two hundred volunteers in a span of two months. It served as an exercise in system design and leadership design. Miti is the founder and visionary behind the Recipe Of Hope.  Through the medium of dance, design & education - sharing, connecting, communicating, teaching and a passion to bring about change for the betterment of society form the basis of her work ethos.
