Knowing what a role involves and convincing an MP's office, a think tank, or a policy consulting firm that you can actually deliver it are quite different things — and that gap is where most early-career applicants lose out.

Having worked across parliamentary offices, think tanks, and corporate public affairs consulting, and having been involved in hiring for legislative offices myself, I understand what these teams actually look for in early-career applicants.
