About me
How many 150 year old technologies do you use every day at work?
Other than the occasional light bulb, the answer is probably zero…or so you think.
Actually, almost the entire discipline of management is about that old and you struggle with it every day.
Why do we no longer ride in buggies pulled by horses? Why do we no longer use typewriters?
Science.
Science has given us keen insight into how nature self-organizes to get things done.
Yet we continue to design and build companies with structures and processes that were developed at a time when the machine was the paradigm of all that was progressive.
Are you aware that traditional management practice in the model of Fredrick Winslow Taylor and his contemporaries was intentionally designed to minimize employee contribution?
Taylor’s famous line went, “Under our system a worker is told what he is to do and how he is to do it. Any improvement he makes on the orders given to him is fatal to his success."
The result is that organizations today spend millions each year on change management, team building, conflict resolution, organization development, supervisory and management training, and other mechanisms for addressing the almost infinite laundry list of organizational dysfunctions.
Worse, conventional business wisdom is that organization leaders should be tied to their jobs and buried with work, with the attendant stress on health and family relationships.
Which raises an obvious question. Do you work for your company or does your company work for you?
For more than thirty years I have worked with companies large and small helping CEOs transform their organization into self-organizing systems in which traditional management plays virtually no role whatsoever.
You can experience healthy growth and have time for your family and personal pursuits when you understand how.
