Dr. Kowsalya is a compassionate and dedicated psychiatrist with over 6 years of clinical experience in adult and perinatal mental health. She is deeply committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care that supports individuals through both acute challenges and long-term recovery. Her approach combines clinical depth with empathy, ensuring patients feel understood, respected, and supported at every step.
Education & Experience
Dr. Kowsalya completed her MD in Psychiatry from the prestigious Institute of Mental Health, Madras Medical College, Chennai, followed by a DNB in Psychiatry from the National Board of Examination. She has served as Senior Resident at leading tertiary institutions including NIMHANS, Bengaluru, SVMCH&RC Puducherry, and Government Omandhurar Medical College, Chennai.
At NIMHANS, she gained extensive experience managing complex psychiatric conditions across outpatient and inpatient settings, delivering acute psychiatric care in emergency services, and coordinating electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for multiple patients each week. She has also worked closely with the Perinatal Psychiatry Unit, developing expertise in psychopharmacological management during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Dr. Kowsalya specializes in Adult Psychiatry, with expertise in managing mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, and stress-related conditions. She has a strong clinical interest in Perinatal Psychiatry, supporting women through pregnancy and postpartum mental health challenges. She is also experienced in brain stimulation techniques, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and remains engaged in advancing evidence-based interventions for complex psychiatric conditions. Her care philosophy emphasizes comprehensive assessment, individualized treatment planning, and a biopsychosocial approach tailored to each patient’s needs.
