John Mathew is an India-qualified lawyer with over 10 years of PQE spreading across the Corporate, M&A, PE, and VC practice groups. Until recently, John worked as a senior consultant for Alpha Wave Global, a New York-based global venture capital fund, and provided legal and transactional support on more than 45 venture-growth investments across India, SEA, and the United States and helped manage about 44 portfolios in multiple jurisdictions. John has also previously worked at AZB & Partners and Trilegal, two of India’s premier tier-1 law firms, and was part of several notable deals in India. At AZB & Partners, John represented major global investment funds on PE and M&A deals in the Indian commercial real estate sector. At Trilegal, John represented marquee domestic and multi-national clients in mergers, demergers, cross-border investments, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, and general corporate matters in sectors such as pharma, renewable energy, information technology, financial services, real estate, media and entertainment, chemicals, healthcare, and education. John has an LL.M. degree in business and finance laws from the George Washington University Law School. As part of his degree, John specialized in international investment laws, international business law, US corporation laws, and M&A. During his LL.M., John served as a legal extern at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, part of the World Bank Group, and as a research assistant to Mr. Marcelo Vázquez-Bermudez, Special Rapporteur appointed by the United Nations’ International Law Commission. John is registered with the Karnataka State Bar Council and licensed to practice throughout India. John is also qualified to attend the New York Bar examination. Currently, John spends his time providing legal consulting services to early-stage startups and investors through his brand, Team Counsel.
