The discovery that data analysis has been the foundation of my entire career was a revelation. I’ve had a life-long natural tendency to research and analyze using technology to gather relevant data. Part of my revelation was fully understanding that data analysis is less about the data and more about analysis and analytical thinking. Data in and of itself is not valuable. It’s how we interpret and use the data that makes it useful. We can identify needs, roadblocks, opportunities, threats, and emerging trends through analysis. We can drill down to key metrics that inform decisions and connect the dots—taking what is complex and making it simple and actionable. As I delved deeper into data analytics, I realized this was the perfect match for my analytical thinking and my love for learning new technologies. I was fascinated by the six phases of data analysis—act, prepare, process, analyze, share, and act. This is the process I’ve always used for solving business problems. I have been employing data analysis as a business professional without realizing it. Only when I discovered the formal field of data analytics did I see the potential to turn my passion into a career. After working in sales, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing, I realized that the common thread in all my roles was analyzing information, finding patterns, and testing insights. I was excited to learn that this was the exact role of a data analyst and that people were paid to do what I had been doing for years! I am determined to start a career in data analytics and continue to earn more certifications while applying to companies whose needs align with my skill set. I’m confident that my sales and marketing skills, deep business acumen, and superpower in data analysis can help businesses increase profitability.
