The first session is an opportunity to begin a comfortable, collaborative therapeutic relationship. Rather than expecting you to have everything figured out, the session focuses on understanding your experiences, goals, and what you hope to gain from therapy.

During the session, we may:

  1. Explore what has brought you to therapy and the concerns that feel most important right now.
  2. Discuss your personal background, including family, relationships, education, work, and significant life experiences, to better understand your context.
  3. Answer any questions you have about the therapeutic process, confidentiality, and how sessions will work.
  4. Begin developing a shared understanding of your needs and discuss possible directions for future sessions.
  5. Clarify your goals for therapy and what meaningful progress would look like for you.

The first session is primarily a conversation rather than intensive therapeutic work. By the end, you'll have a clearer understanding of the therapy process and a collaborative plan for the next steps, tailored to your individual needs.
