  As a researcher, I wanted guidance on improving my research skills and advancing to a research manager role. I did not have a clear idea of what it takes to manage a team, nor did I have anyone to guide me. Another challenge was understanding how to ensure my work has a genuine impact and connect that impact to larger organizational goals. I had prepared some questions for my call with Himanshu, but our conversation exceeded my expectations. Key takeaways: I explained my research process to Himanshu; he asked pointed questions and took the time to understand areas where I could improve. Together, we identified improvement areas to make a more significant impact on the organization's roadmap. Himanshu broke down expectations at an individual contributor level and, more importantly, outlined steps for me to level up to a manager level. We mapped out my current skills, measuring them against his growth conversation model. By evaluating my competencies on a clear and defined scale, I now have a better understanding of where I excel and where I need improvement. This model is also going to be helpful for discussing my growth and goals with my supervisors. Regarding research skills, we delved into research synthesis and initiating research with the broader picture in mind. The key takeaway from this part of our conversation was to not miss the forest for the trees and always keep an eye on the actionability of insights derived from research. Overall, this session has been incredibly insightful and has equipped me with what I need to up my game as a researcher and eventually become a research leader.
