As a fresh graduate (Engineering/BCA/MCA/BSc) passing out of college, students focus on being good at academic syllabus, acquiring aptitude skills, technical skills (like learning a programming language) and soft skills to crack the interviews in IT industry. Are these the skills required to pass the company’s evaluation and to get placed in a software company? To a certain extent this is true. Are these the only skills they need to get started in the corporate world and excel in their career? The answer is a NO!
Fresh graduates need to be fast adapting to the team/project/company they join. They need to be proficient not just technically, but also in some of the aspects of the development life cycle, software methodologies followed in the project, commonly used tools across various phases of software development, business language used in the team, the soft skills to interact with their team and the customers. These skills are a must and bare minimum expectation in the corporate world to enter, survive and excel, which is lacking in the fresh graduates. The fresh graduates don’t realize this till they start giving interviews in the corporate world.
The underlying problem here is “Academic syllabus alone is not on par with the industry expectations”. How can one gain these skills prior to entering the corporate world?
