The Coffee Collision
Jake was late. Again. Running through downtown traffic with a bagel in his mouth and a coffee cup in each hand, he weaved past pedestrians like an Olympic athlete. Meanwhile, Emma, a no-nonsense book editor with a habit of speed-walking when annoyed, stormed out of her favorite café after receiving the wrong coffee for the third time that week.
As fate (and caffeine) would have it, they collided.
Jake’s coffee exploded all over Emma’s white blouse. Time slowed. A bagel flew. People gasped.
“I’m so, so sorry!” Jake sputtered, attempting to clean the mess with napkins, only making it worse.
“You attacked me with a cappuccino,” Emma deadpanned, looking down at her dripping shirt. “And I think your bagel just stole my croissant.”
After an awkward pause, Jake burst out laughing. Emma, despite herself, cracked a smile.
Enemies in the Elevator
As the universe would continue to taunt them, Emma and Jake ended up in the same office building. Worse — the same elevator. Every day.
They traded sarcastic remarks and competed for who could hit the “door close” button faster. Jake nicknamed her “Queen Cold Brew.” Emma called him “Bagel Boy.”
But then came the day the elevator stopped. Between floors. For two hours.
With no escape and bad Wi-Fi, their bickering slowly turned into banter. Emma confessed she loved cheesy reality shows. Jake admitted he cried during Disney movies. By the time the elevator restarted, they were laughing like old friends.
The Almost-Date
Jake invited Emma out for “a non-date,” just dinner and some harmless karaoke. She agreed — but only if she got to choose the first song.
One off-key rendition of "I Will Survive" later, they were officially more than frenemies.
The Rain Kiss
Caught in a sudden downpour without an umbrella, they raced through the park, soaked and laughing. Emma slipped on the grass — Jake caught her.
“I think I like you,” he said, eyes locked on hers.
“I think you’re still holding my coffee grudge,” she replied.
And then, in the rain, under gray skies and the smell of wet grass, they kissed.
Epilogue: Accidentally in Love
They still argued over coffee orders. She still teased him about bagels. But somewhere between sarcasm and shared secrets, they fell — wildly, hilariously, accidentally — in love.
