The Sweden Job Seeker Visa is a residence permit designed for highly qualified individuals from outside the EU/EEA who wish to come to Sweden to look for work or to explore the possibility of starting their own business. It is not a work permit, but rather a way to legally reside in the country while actively searching for employment.


Key Requirements and Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: You must have a higher education degree equivalent to a second-cycle qualification in Sweden. This includes:

  • A 60-credit or 120-credit Master's degree.

  • A professional degree worth 60–330 credits.
  • A postgraduate/PhD-level degree.
  • Your education must be verified. You will need to provide a signed letter of consent allowing the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) to verify your academic documents.


  • Financial Stability: You must be able to prove that you can financially support yourself during your entire stay in Sweden. The required amount is currently at least SEK 13,000 per month. You must also show that you have enough funds to cover your return journey.



  • Comprehensive Health Insurance: You are required to have comprehensive health insurance that is valid for the entire period of your stay in Sweden. The insurance must cover urgent and other medical care, hospitalization, emergency dental care, and medical repatriation if needed.


  • Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for the entire period for which you are applying for the residence permit.

  • Location: You must be located outside of Sweden when you apply.

  • Intent: You must have a clear intention to look for work or explore business opportunities in Sweden.

Visa Duration and Conditions

  • Duration: The permit is granted for a minimum of three months and a maximum of nine months.

  • Purpose: The visa allows you to stay in Sweden for job searching or business exploration. It does not give you the right to work.

  • Pathway to Work Permit: Once you have secured a job offer, you can apply for a work permit. You can switch from the job seeker visa to a work permit while in Sweden.


Application Process

  1. Gather Documents: Collect all the required documents, including:
  • Copies of your valid passport pages.

  • Your degree certificate and academic transcripts.

  • Proof of sufficient funds (e.g., bank statements).

  • Proof of comprehensive health insurance.

  • A signed letter of consent for UHR to verify your educational documents.
  • A completed application form.
  1. Submit Application: You can apply online through the Swedish Migration Agency's website. Online applications are generally faster and easier to process. If you cannot apply online, you may submit a paper application at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general in your country of residence.

  3. Pay the Fee: There is an application fee that must be paid at the time of submission.

  5. Await Decision: The processing time for the visa typically ranges from two to four months. The Swedish Migration Agency will review your application and may request additional documents or an interview.
