About me
A lot of what we do in life is influenced by social, economic, political, and environmental factors in society. Similarly, I was greatly influenced by these factors while working as a Research Fellow in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. There, I observed the inadequate working of the health systems at the primary care level and was forced to think about the reasons why the health system is still lacking in providing basic and primary care. I realized that, even though we have made progress in the healthcare sector as a nation, there is a lack of even distribution of this development.
Gadchiroli district, which is only 200km away from one of the best tier 2 cities in India, is underdeveloped in all parameters of social development, including health. This made me understand that hospitals are not the solution to the health problems of our society rather they are just a small part of it.
The main goal of Ayurved is 'Swasthasya Swastha Rakshanam', which roughly translates into Prevention is better than Cure!
As an Ayurveda graduate, I have learned and experienced the importance of 'Promotive and Preventive Health' which in turn can help improve the public health scenario of the whole world . I want to bridge the gap between clinical and non-clinical (public health) fields of healthcare sectors to overcome the challenges of delivering efficient healthcare because both are equally important and interdependent parts of the public health system.
During the Covid19 pandemic as well we have seen and realised the potential Ayurveda holds in improving preventive and promotive public healthcare services be it immunity building or fighting against the infection and its complications.
Evidence shows that health systems powered by a primary healthcare (PHC) approach are the most effective and cost-effective way to bring services for health and well-being closer to people.
My goal in the near future is to utilise the potential of Ayurved that I have learnt in my graduation and the skills, knowledge, critical thinking, field experiences and diversified social perspective that I would learn during my Masters to improve the current health infrastructure.
