Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Nazir is a renowned Indian scientist in floriculture, best known for his transformative work in gladiolus cultivation. Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, he began his academic journey with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Agriculture in 1986, followed by an M.Sc. in Genetics and Plant Breeding in 1995, and later a Ph.D. from Ch. Charan Singh University, focusing on gladiolus genetics. Dr. Nazir's professional career commenced in 1988 with the Directorate of Agriculture, J&K, where he dedicated over three decades to enhancing the economic viability of marginal farmers through commercial floriculture. He advocates for gladiolus as a game-changer in rural agricultural economies, highlighting its potential to uplift livelihoods through high-value cultivation. He has developed numerous varieties of gladiolus, freesia, and other ornamental plants, extending his influence to regions such as Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, and Goa, by providing technical support and facilitating technology transfer. A prolific academic, Dr. Nazir has published over 150 research papers, 50 abstracts, 15 popular articles, and 10 lead papers, along with authoring foundational books such as Gladiolus Cultivation (2001), Culture of Gladiolus (2020), and Botany, Research and Horticulture of Freesia (2021). His outstanding contributions have earned him multiple accolades, including five Lifetime Achievement Awards, the INSC AwardREA (2021), Indian Glory Award (2023), Eminent Scientist Award (SVPSS, 2023), and the Best Scientist Award by ATDS in Kathmandu (2024). Beyond his research, he is a dedicated mentor to budding scientists and farmers, championing a "Color Revolution" in India through floriculture.
