SUMMARY: Cognitive Neuroscientist working on neuromodulation-based approaches to: studying consciousness, enhancing meditation, and developing novel medical interventions. Arguably top expert in human transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) Neuromodulation, having performed its first-ever clinical trial (NCT02522429; doi.org/10.1101/2023.07.13.23292523) and worked continuously on tFUS IN HUMANS since 2017, starting as a 23yo graduate student at UCLA, an experience shared by < 10 people worldwide. My work has been featured in the LA Times, Voice of America, and elsewhere. One of four "renegade neuroscientists" (LA’s KCRW) doing top-university-quality neuroscience @ advancedconsciousness.org (a 501c3). In late 2024, I co-founded a daring bay-area Neurotech company based around my extremely rare experience with an emerging technology that…is likely to provide what justifiably can be described as unbelievable capabilities. I bring this very unique scientific background to industry alongside a CEO with the business chops to make these capabilities a reality in what I wager will be…just a handful of years. LONG(PhD): @UCLA, I performed some of the first work using human focused ultrasound (FUS) brain stimulation, both crafting the early methods for this (still-new, & then…unheard of and totally insane) technique while using tFUS clinically and scientifically. This work aimed to improve the science and treatment of disorders of consciousness (e.g., Coma)—nearly untreatable, yet very-common disorders that tFUS may particularly help with by reaching the deep-brain. I also used tFUS to study Cognitive Functioning, Neuronal Arousal, Thalamic Function, and more in healthy people. POST-PHD: Senior Research Scientist @ Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies (IACS), a non-profit cognitive neuroscience research firm in LA. Here I improved the use of direct brain stimulation to deepen meditation—part of our collective work towards understanding consciousness in ways that strongly promote human flourishing. NOW: Recently, I co-founded a Neurotech company in the bay area based on methods that I was lucky enough to receive extremely unique access to during my PhD. At the exact time that this technology (tFUS) is exploding in popularity, I aim to fully mature it with the capital only industry provides. Our competitors, while (nearly) all extremely capable, will ALWAYS lack what is nearing a decade spent developing unique IP, skills, and intuition in this field—which remains ever-growing. I hope to build the first truly-capable non-invasive BCI.
