About me

Hi, I’m Dr. Jitender Kumar — a passionate researcher in Computational and Theoretical Neuroscience with a unique journey from core physics to brain science. My transition from physics to neuroscience has given me a strong quantitative foundation, which I now apply to understand the brain's complex dynamics, neural circuitry, and disease mechanisms. I specialize in building biologically realistic single-neuron and network models using simulation tools such as NEURON, Brian2, and NetPyNE. My research focuses on modeling neural mechanisms underlying disorders like Parkinson’s disease, with particular interest in drug effects (e.g., Levodopa, Amantadine) and neuromodulation techniques such as deep brain stimulation (DBS). I also work on neural data analysis, behavior decoding, peristimulus time histograms (PSTH), SVM-based classification, and biomarker discovery. Alongside research, I actively support students and early-career researchers. I provide guidance on writing scientific papers, theses, and statements of purpose (SOPs), as well as navigating PhD and postdoc applications. If you're applying for fellowships or need help framing research proposals, I’m happy to share practical advice from my own experience. Whether you’re working on computational experiments, behavioral data analysis, or translating neurobiological concepts into code, I can offer personalized mentorship and technical insight. If you’re a student exploring neuroscience, a researcher refining your project, or someone seeking fellowship or academic writing support — feel free to connect. I’d be glad to assist, collaborate, or simply brainstorm ideas with you. Let’s make brain science more approachable, one model and manuscript at a time!
