I recently transitioned from academia (PhD student in Astrophysics) to industry as a data scientist. As a researcher, I enjoy thinking about complex mathematical and physical problems. While some of my past research were pen-and-paper analytical works, in the past few years, I have spent a most of my time writing codes to create numerical models and performing multidimensional fitting of data. I am intrigued by the complexity of our universe, but what fascinates me, even more, is the simplicity behind the complexity. The fall of an apple, motion of planets, the formation of stars to black holes are all related to a simple physics of gravity. Many exquisite details about our universe have been uncovered by obtaining data through experiments and looking at the hidden patterns in the data. As a child who grew up in a remote part of Nepal, my home had the first electrical connection only when I was six years old, and the first computer when I was fourteen. My journey from a technologically nascent village of Nepal to Silicon Valley has allowed me to see the immense growth of computers and their power in research, innovation, and business. It intrigues me that just about a decade ago, computers were luxury for me, and now they are a part of my day-to-day work and life.
