The new Saudi Arabian unit will use a diversified portfolio approach that includes electric buses, light trucks and conventional cars of operation as a part of the main brand, Ashok Leyland, as opposed to its electric vehicle subsidiary, Switch Mobility. Ashok Leyland is a global company with operations in several countries which includes Kenya, Tanzania, (South) Sudan, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), Uganda, and Ukraine. This differentiated product line which is important to address the different needs of the vast Saudi market. The plant will be first run as an assembly unit, but the company has indicated that it has plans to localise the components in future, which is a long-term dedication to the region. The success of its international sales, which are highly dependent on the GCC, SAARC, and Africa, validates West Asia as one of the pillars toward the company achieving record international sales volumes.
