Welcome to your first therapy session!

Embarking on this journey is a significant step towards self-discovery, healing, and personal growth.

The initial session lays the foundation for a strong therapeutic alliance, where you and your therapist collaboratively work towards achieving your goals.

Here's what to expect during your first therapy session:

  1. Your therapist will offer you a warm and non-judgmental space, making you feel comfortable and safe to share your thoughts and emotions openly. She will introduce herself, explain the confidentiality policies, and address any concerns you may have.
  2. Your therapist will understand your concerns and delve into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to gain insight into the challenges you're facing. Open and honest communication will help identify any underlying issues that may be contributing to your current struggles. The therapist will actively listen and demonstrate empathy, allowing you to share your emotions and experiences without judgment. Feeling heard and understood can be incredibly validating during difficult times.
  3. Together with your therapist, you will discuss your therapy goals and what you hope to achieve through the therapeutic process. Clear and achievable goals will be set, providing a roadmap for your therapy journey.
  4. Your therapist will explain the therapeutic approach they intend to use, such as psychodynamic, CBT, mindfulness-based therapy, acceptance and commitment etc. Therapeutic approaches will be culturally adapted. She will describe how the chosen approach can address your specific concerns and guide you through the process.
  5. This session is an excellent time to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process, your therapist's qualifications, or the confidentiality of your sessions. Feel free to seek clarification and express any concerns you may have.
  6. Your therapist will explain what you can expect from future sessions, including the frequency of sessions, the duration of therapy, and any potential challenges you might encounter along the way.
