You knew you had more experience. You delivered results. But they got the title. The raise. The recognition. That moment? It stays with you. Because it makes you question everything you’ve been taught about growth. I’ve seen it play out across 30+ years in the IT industry, rising from an executive to the Chief Operating Officer. And here’s what I learned the hard way: Hard work isn’t the currency of promotions. Visibility is. Meaning? Leadership isn’t just earned through effort. It’s claimed by those who know how to think, act, and position themselves like one, long before the title shows up. Hi, I’m Vijay Srinivasan, an ICF-Certified PCC Coach with over 5000+ hours of facilitation, & a mission to help capable professionals claim the recognition, leadership, and career growth they’ve always deserved. I help mid-senior IT professionals who are doing everything “right”, and still not moving forward. Not because of underperformance. But because they are under-positioned. Imagine this – You’ve likely hit the mid-career plateau. Here’s a Disclaimer – You don’t need to “start over.” You just need to start showing up like the leader you already are. But, why me? ↳ ICF-PCC Certified – The Global Standards in Coaching ↳ Lived experience at every level—from junior executive to COO ↳ 5000+ hours of facilitation experience across tech professionals & leaders And a deep belief that leadership isn’t taught in schools or colleges, it’s built through clarity, confidence, and conscious positioning by someone who’s lived the game. So if you’re tired of being skipped over & If your career feels stuck but your ambition hasn’t slowed down, let’s make your next move the one that transforms your career completely! It is important because at mid-senior levels, promotion decisions are less about your output and more about whether decision-makers already see you as a leader. Two professionals with similar results are rarely judged equally; the one who commands a room, frames problems with clarity, and influences without authority is usually the one who gets chosen. In short, presence is what converts competence into career growth."},{"question":"How to develop executive presence?","answer":"Treat presence as a set of learnable behaviors rather than a personality trait. Speak with structure in meetings (conclusion first, then reasoning), volunteer for high-stakes conversations instead of avoiding them, learn to disagree respectfully with senior people, and manage your tone and pace under pressure. Seek honest feedback on how you come across, observe leaders you admire, and practice deliberately in every interaction. Working with a coach or mentor accelerates this because you get an outside view of the gaps you cannot see yourself."},{"question":"What is executive presence training and does it really work?","answer":"Executive presence training builds the skills that make professionals look and sound like leaders: gravitas, structured communication, storytelling with impact, stakeholder handling, and composure in conflict. It works when the program goes beyond theory and includes practice, real-time feedback, and application to your actual workplace situations. One-off seminars rarely change behavior; sustained training with role-plays, coaching, and accountability tends to produce visible results within a few months. For IT professionals moving into leadership, the best outcomes come from training combined with on-the-job application."},{"question":"Is executive presence coaching worth it?","answer":"For professionals who are already strong performers but keep getting passed over, executive presence coaching is usually worth it because the gap is rarely skill — it is positioning, visibility, and how you show up in rooms where decisions are made. A good coach helps you identify blind spots, rehearse high-stakes moments, and build a clear plan to be seen as leadership material. It is less useful if you expect overnight change; the value comes when you apply the feedback consistently over months. If a promotion or leadership transition is on the line, the investment typically pays back quickly."},{"question":"What is the meaning of career plateau?","answer":"The meaning of career plateau is a stage where your growth stalls — your role, title, salary, and responsibilities stop advancing even though you continue working. It is generally described in three forms: a structural plateau (no further roles to move into), a content plateau (the work no longer challenges you), and a life plateau (your priorities outside work shift). In the Indian IT sector, it often looks like spending years in delivery mode — a packed calendar and full inbox, but no movement toward leadership."},{"question":"How to overcome a career plateau?","answer":"First diagnose why you are stuck: lack of open roles, lack of challenge, or lack of visibility. Then act on the real cause — take ownership of problems beyond your job description, build relationships with decision-makers outside your reporting line, develop the skills your next role needs before you have the title, and make your impact measurable and visible. If the plateau is structural, the move may be a new organization; if it is about positioning, deliberate leadership and visibility work changes it. A coach can help you identify which type you are in, because most professionals assume the wrong reason and keep working harder at the wrong fix."},{"question":"Why am I not getting promoted even though I work hard?","answer":"Because hard work is the entry ticket, not the deciding factor. Promotion decisions are made by people who often see only a slice of your work, and they promote those they already perceive as ready for the next level. If you are the dependable silent engine of your team, your manager may unconsciously keep you where you are because you are hardest to replace there. Break the pattern by making your impact visible, influencing beyond your immediate team, and positioning yourself as a leader long before the title arrives."},{"question":"How to get promoted at work?","answer":"Start by understanding what the next level actually demands — ask your manager directly — then demonstrate those behaviors now. Deliver business outcomes rather than just tasks, quantify your impact, and communicate it in reviews and one-on-ones. Build visibility with people beyond your manager, such as skip-level leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, because promotions are usually discussed in rooms you are not in. Finally, ask for the promotion with evidence and a clear timeline; waiting to be noticed is the slowest route."},{"question":"How to get promoted at work quickly?","answer":"Genuinely fast promotions follow a change in perception, not just longer hours. You can accelerate the cycle by picking high-visibility problems the business cares about, narrating your impact through concise updates and success stories, earning a senior sponsor who advocates for you, and explicitly telling your manager you want the next role and by when. In most Indian IT organizations the realistic cycle is still a few quarters, since appraisal cycles and budgets are fixed — but positioning yourself early means you are the obvious choice when the next opening appears."},{"question":"Is getting promoted without a raise normal?","answer":"It happens, but treat it carefully. A title without compensation usually means the organization wants to recognize or retain you without committing budget, or the salary review sits on a different cycle. Ask for the increase in writing with a specific date, benchmark the market salary for the new role, and confirm the title comes with a real change in responsibility. A promotion that raises expectations but not pay is a negotiating position — use it to secure the raise within one or two cycles, or take the validated title to the market."},{"question":"Is getting promoted too quickly a problem?","answer":"Only if the pace outstrips your readiness. Moving up fast is an advantage when you deliberately build the leadership behaviors each level needs; it becomes a problem when larger responsibilities arrive without matching presence, influence, or support systems. If you are promoted quickly and feel like an imposter, close the gap with mentoring, feedback, and executive coaching rather than waiting for confidence to arrive. Handled well, early promotion compounds — visibility, sponsors, and bigger opportunities tend to come faster to those who are already moving."}]}}]] 22:null 26:[["$","title","0",{"children":"Coaching Conversations with Vijay Srinivasan"}],["$","meta","1",{"name":"description","content":"Coaching Conversations with Vijay Srinivasan · Coaching Conversations · 1:1 Call · 60 mins · Free · Topmate"}],["$","link","2",{"rel":"manifest","href":"/manifest.json","crossOrigin":"$undefined"}],["$","meta","3",{"name":"robots","content":"index, follow"}],["$","link","4",{"rel":"canonical","href":"https://topmate.io/coachwithvijay/1529936"}],["$","meta","5",{"name":"yandex-verification","content":"0c572762b08c1459"}],["$","meta","6",{"name":"facebook-domain-verification","content":"xewq3sfwoskylhfigrhakv2hy7zemf"}],["$","meta","7",{"property":"og:title","content":"Coaching Conversations with Vijay Srinivasan"}],["$","meta","8",{"property":"og:description","content":"Coaching Conversations with Vijay Srinivasan · Coaching Conversations · 1:1 Call · 60 mins · Free · Topmate"}],["$","meta","9",{"property":"og:url","content":"https://topmate.io/coachwithvijay/1529936"}],["$","meta","10",{"property":"og:image","content":"https://topmate.io/cdn-cgi/image/width=1600,fit=contain,quality=90/https://res.cloudinary.com/topmate/image/upload/s--joXNKcco--/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_500,l_text:Arial_130_bold:Coaching%20Conversations,w_1300,x_350,y_380/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55:Checkout%20my%20offerings%20and%20book%20a%20slot%20at,w_1500,x_350,y_920/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55:-%3E%20topmate.io%252F,w_1000,x_350,y_1000/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55_bold:coachwithvijay,w_1000,x_682,y_1000/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:video_nhkyzj,o_100,w_50,x_350,y_215/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:clock_ramnsz,o_100,w_50,x_800,y_215/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:1:1%20call,w_850,x_425,y_220/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:90%20mins,w_850,x_880,y_220/v1/services_sharable/share_base_vv5vv8.jpg?ogv=2"}],["$","meta","11",{"property":"og:type","content":"website"}],["$","meta","12",{"name":"twitter:card","content":"summary_large_image"}],["$","meta","13",{"name":"twitter:title","content":"Coaching Conversations with Vijay Srinivasan"}],["$","meta","14",{"name":"twitter:description","content":"Coaching Conversations with Vijay Srinivasan · Coaching Conversations · 1:1 Call · 60 mins · Free · Topmate"}],["$","meta","15",{"name":"twitter:image","content":"https://topmate.io/cdn-cgi/image/width=1600,fit=contain,quality=90/https://res.cloudinary.com/topmate/image/upload/s--joXNKcco--/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_500,l_text:Arial_130_bold:Coaching%20Conversations,w_1300,x_350,y_380/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55:Checkout%20my%20offerings%20and%20book%20a%20slot%20at,w_1500,x_350,y_920/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55:-%3E%20topmate.io%252F,w_1000,x_350,y_1000/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_1500,l_text:Arial_55_bold:coachwithvijay,w_1000,x_682,y_1000/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:video_nhkyzj,o_100,w_50,x_350,y_215/c_fit,g_north_west,h_50,l_services_sharable:clock_ramnsz,o_100,w_50,x_800,y_215/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:1:1%20call,w_850,x_425,y_220/c_fit,co_rgb:000000,g_north_west,h_100,l_text:Arial_55_bold:90%20mins,w_850,x_880,y_220/v1/services_sharable/share_base_vv5vv8.jpg?ogv=2"}],["$","link","16",{"rel":"shortcut icon","href":"/favicon.svg"}],["$","link","17",{"rel":"icon","href":"/favicon.svg","type":"image/svg+xml"}],["$","link","18",{"rel":"apple-touch-icon","href":"/favicon.svg"}],"$L30"]
