About me
On 13th September 2023, a Wednesday morning, after having breakfast and coffee, I was reading “A Search In Secret India by Paul Brunton”, sitting in a corner of my home, which is located in a corner of Visakhapatnam. It was 13th day after my 38 years of service at NMDC Limited, a Navaratna PSE.
Suddenly my mobile rang and Mr Rakesh (name changed) was on the other end, inquiring about my present situation at my new location. While our conversation was progressing, I suddenly noticed silence from Rakesh’s end, and I could here the emotion in his choked voice. He became emotional as I had departed from Bacheli Complex (My work place.) after a long association. He said he couldn’t digest the truth that I could no longer be available to him. I reassured him by saying that I am always available, no matter where I am.
My retirement day was 31st August 2023. People started bidding farewell to me in various big and small groups from the last week of August to 1st September (We left Bacheli on 1st September morning). The love and affection shown to me by people in Bacheli are unforgettable in this life time.
From the last week of August until today, many individuals became emotional about my retirement, whether they are contract workers HEMM operators, front-line executives, Section In charges, HODs or CGMs. People from all work domains have expressed their love and affection toward me with tears in their eyes and tight hugs. I feel blessed. God has blessed me with love and affection of so many people.
After dedicating 38 years of service to a Navaratna Company, when I look back and want to cherish it, at every point of time I received the blessings of God almighty and unconditional support from Uma, my better half and mentor as well as Srikar and Sriram, my loving sons who have always been by my side and by Uma’s side. I am blessed because the people around me were always understanding, supportive and took care of me. Whether it was my first boss Shri Kariyampudi sir in 1985, or my last boss Shri Venkateswarlu sir in 2023 or my first colleague Mr Mathad, who remains one of my best friends to this day or Mr Ajay Adala who left company long back or my last colleagues who were with me until my last day and are still with me (names cannot suffice this post.). Every one supported me, guided me and took care of me.
Otherwise, working as Mines Manager of Bacheli Complex, which contributes 40% to NMDC’s profit of 5500 crores and produces approximately 147 Lakh tonnes of Iron ore annually, with a total excavation of 164 Lakh tonnes per annum, a work force of around 3000, 25 work locations, and hundreds of equipment at every work area, would not have been easy task. The job demanded a delicate balance between safety norms, production targets, and statutory obligations. The stress was truly high, with unexpected accidents, equipment breakdowns, inspections by statutory authorities and IR issues.
If my story were to be end with the phrase:
All is well that ends well, the credit will go to God almighty, my family, and my colleagues.
If you are interested in living happily in stressful conditions, taking on more responsibilities with ease, and perform better than you are currently, feel free to contact me at any time, regardless of your work domain and system. The principles for better life style are nearly same.
I will open my calendar to people to help them manage their workplaces effectively.
Your’s
Best wishes,
Subrahmanyam.
