Metabolic diseases' curious omission from standard disease classifications has long intrigued me. Conventionally, the categorization of diseases rests on the foundation of their impact on specific bodily systems, their mode of transmission, or their underlying causal agents. Yet, as we unravel this intricate web of classification, we encounter the enigma of cancer. Does it fit into the mould of a genetic disorder, or a viral anomaly? Alternatively, might we dare to distil its essence into the realm of metabolic disorders? Similar questions arise when contemplating the classification of diabetes and Alzheimer's—challenges that elude easy categorization. My greatest fascination, therefore, lies in unravelling the intricacies of diseases, a pursuit I firmly believe holds the key to normalizing the elusive centennial longevity mark. I am resolutely committed to driving this aspiration forward, employing every means at my disposal to make it a reality. My journey hasn’t been a straight line. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and currently residing in Oxford, UK. Between Nairobi and Oxford, I’ve had the privilege of calling other amazing countries home. By training, I am a food scientist, food technologist and medical biotechnologist, but there are a few more things that stretch my imagination; I play the violin, I love architecture and cars, and I’m a serial autodidact. In 2017, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BSc in FOST from Egerton University. My path then led me to South Africa, where an unforeseen misdiagnosis thrust me into depression, a stark challenge that altered my course. This adversity spurred a transformational journey, co-founding D’OKAYO FOODS LTD (DFL)—a venture rooted in proactive, preventive health measures. DFL's vision transcended its inception. Just ten months later, the Global Leaders Scholarship beckoned, guiding me to the University of Bath in the UK. Here, my quest continued, driven by a burning desire to amplify my capacity for effecting change through DFL. My academic journey culminated in distinction (no surprise), yet, I recognized a gap between theory and practice. With humility and determination, I embarked on a new trajectory within the Biopharma industry as a Bioanalytical Scientist. The pursuit of knowledge and the honing of skills remain my guiding lights. As my narrative continues, shaped by the ebbs and flows of experience, I remain dedicated to pushing the boundaries of my biopharma expertise to have a more profound impact both as an entrepreneur and as a scientist.
