I graduated from college in 2004. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I landed a job at a startup medical device company. I started in marketing. Two years later I was promoted to sales. High pay. Flexible schedule. Startup culture. Stock options. I loved it! My job required 30+ hours a week of car travel. I used ALL of that time to educate myself about the stock market. I binge listening to every audiobook, podcast, and earnings call I could find. I studied financial statements. I constantly communicated with other investors. I learned 100x more about business, money, and investing in my car than I did in college. By 2014, I realized that my true calling in life was to become a financial educator. I LOVE everything about investing -- especially helping other people figure out how the stock market works. In 2015, I got lucky. A new management team took over, and I was let go. That career shock pushed me to apply for my dream job at The Motley Fool. I got the job and became a full-time writer in 2015. At the start, I was a terrible writer. Gradually, I improved. Over time, I was invited to work on premium articles and become a recurring guest on podcasts and live streams. In 2019, I started sharing investing lessons on Twitter. That decision changed my life. I've grown my following to more than 400,000 in under 3 years. I also started writing a book. In 2021, I started a YouTube channel. That proved to be another transformative decision. I've grown my subscriber base to more than 60,000+ in just over 1 year. In 2022, I launched my book. It's called "Why does the stock market go up?" It's the book I wish I had when I first started investing. It's on pace to become a best-seller. My career mission is "to spread financial wellness." I now spend my time creating content that helps people manage their personal finances, invest better, and think long-term. 99% of the content that I make is free to consume.
