About this product

Stop treating your PM internship search like a lottery.

The PM Job Hunt Playbook is a short, practical field guide for college students trying to break into Product.

Instead of telling you to simply "apply more", it gives you a different way to think about the search:

Treat the job hunt like a product problem.

Inside:

• Find where PM opportunities actually come from beyond crowded job boards

• Understand the three signals you need to build: evidence, proximity and narrative

• Find your PM wedge instead of positioning yourself as another generic "aspiring PM"

• Diagnose where your job-hunt funnel is leaking

• Build a simple system to track applications, outreach and follow-ups

• Use rejection and silence as information instead of taking them personally

• Learn how to create your own shot instead of waiting to be selected

• Practical worksheets, frameworks and examples you can use immediately

A few ideas you'll find inside

The crowded door is the worst door.

Early-stage startups, warm introductions, proof-led outreach and communities can create opportunities that don't look like conventional PM openings.

Pick a wedge.

Instead of simply calling yourself an aspiring PM, identify the intersection between what you can already prove and the type of company where that proof is valuable.

Run it like experiments, not a lottery.

Track your channels, contacts, angles, proof, stages and next actions. Then figure out what's actually leaking instead of blindly increasing application volume.

Why I made this

I'm Ashutosh, a Product Manager and IIT Guwahati student.

I put this together from the process of figuring out Product while in college, including applying, building products, doing PM work, networking and working in early-stage startups.

I made plenty of mistakes along the way.

One of them was assuming that more applications automatically meant more chances. It didn't. I had to start thinking about where the funnel was actually breaking.

This isn't a placement guarantee or a formula for getting hired.

It's a field guide for running a better search.

Read it. Pick one thing. Test it on your next application.
