About me

Immunologist specialized in infectious disease biology and drug development during my PhD. My research focused on addressing the growing concern of drug resistance in the treatment of Leishmaniasis, enlisted as neglected tropical diseases by WHO. I investigated the potential of isolated plant metabolites as cost-effective and natural alternatives for anti-Leishmanial therapeutics and successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of a novel "carbohydrate-complex" isolated from an edible mushroom in reprogramming immune cells in mice models to combat Leishmania infections by utilizing cutting-edge techniques such as PCR, Flow Cytometry, and Western Blot and other molecular techniques, For my postdoctoral research, I focused on unraveling the complex cognitive impairments observed in patients who suffered brain injuries resulting from hypoxia exposure during high altitude trekking. I successfully established, a link between hypoxia-induced disruption of cholesterol biosynthesis and functional disability of the serotonin1A receptor, a GPCR essential for cognitive functions, by successfully employing a range of techniques such as TLC, Radioligand binding assay, FRET-based assay, and flow cytometry. One of the significant achievements during my work was the establishment of a novel cell culture technique to cultivate CHO and HEK cells under low oxygen conditions (1% O2 concentration), allowing me to simulate hypoxia accurately. I also worked on a collaborative project to understand how actin cytoskeleton is integral to Mycobacterium infection in host macrophages. As a Grants Administrator with India Alliance, I worked on pre- and post-award processes to ensure smooth running of all fellowships and awards. I acted as a primary point of contact between awardees/applicants and funding body effectively facilitating advises and guidance for proper execution of projects/applications. Maintained the organization's website with the IT team and utilized expertise to act as a resource person for Scientific Communication workshops. Led the bi-annual Senior and Intermediate Fellowship competition, overseeing all stages of the process to ensure a fair and efficient evaluation of applications by coordinating the function of the Selection Committee. Additionally I worked as a coordinator for Africa India Mobility Funds where I monitored timely disbursal of award letters and closure of grants. I had also worked as a lecturer, an educator and content developer and as a freelance Medical Writer. I am an avid traveler and love reading.
