What is the ISACA AAIG exam?

Advanced in AI Governance (AAIG) is an ISACA credential that ISACA describes as intended for experienced governance professionals who lead AI adoption at enterprise level. ISACA has named three practice areas: AI Enterprise Governance; Data and AI Architecture Principles; and AI Enterprise Integration and Performance Monitoring. When this guide was written, ISACA had opened a beta programme but had not published a detailed examination content outline, domain weights or task statements. Check ISACA's candidate information for the current position.

Who is this AAIG study guide for?

  • Candidates preparing for the ISACA AAIG examination, including during the beta period.
  • Holders of CGEIT, CISA, CISM or CRISC extending their practice to AI.
  • Governance, risk, audit and technology leaders who must direct, control and evidence an enterprise's use of AI.

What problem does this book solve?

AAIG is new, and ISACA had not published a detailed outline when this guide was written. The book builds on the three practice areas ISACA has named, adds the knowledge areas of ISACA's related credentials and the primary laws and standards, and labels every assumption. Chapter 1 explains how to re-map revision once an outline appears.

What's inside?

  • AAIG Exam Prep: Advanced in AI Governance — A Study Book for Enterprise AI Governance Leaders, 2026 edition, 516 pages, PDF.
  • The same book as an editable DOCX (Word) file.
  • A one-page Start Here guide with the contents, 4-, 6- and 8-week reading plans and the disclaimer.

The book contains 32 chapters in five parts, five appendices (templates, a 53-control crosswalk, a reference timeline, a worked impact assessment and revision summaries), a glossary, a bibliography and an index.

What does the AAIG book cover?

Parts II to IV correspond to the three practice areas ISACA has named for AAIG; Part I lays foundations and Part V covers examination technique.

  • Part I, Foundations (Ch 1–4): the AAIG credential and what ISACA has and has not published; AI technologies for governance leaders; COBIT 2019, ISO/IEC 38500 and ISO/IEC 38507 applied to AI; AI risk and trustworthiness.
  • Part II, AI Enterprise Governance (Ch 5–14): strategy, value and portfolio; structures and accountability; policy architecture; AI risk and enterprise risk management; the EU AI Act as amended; the US, UK, Asia-Pacific and India; the NIST AI RMF and ISO/IEC 42001 family; ethics, culture and AI literacy; sustainability and human rights; third-party and supply-chain governance.
  • Part III, Data and AI Architecture Principles (Ch 15–21): data ownership, stewardship and classification; data quality, provenance and privacy; enterprise architecture; design principles for trustworthy AI; generative and agentic architectures; AI security; the model life cycle.
  • Part IV, AI Enterprise Integration and Performance Monitoring (Ch 22–30): operating model and change; deployment, impact assessment and human oversight; measuring performance, value and risk; monitoring and drift; incidents and decommissioning; assurance and audit; board reporting and maturity; financial services, health care and the public sector; an integrated case.
  • Part V (Ch 31–32): ISACA-style question technique and a 40-question practice set.
  • Appendices: governance templates; a crosswalk mapping 53 controls to ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI RMF, the EU AI Act and COBIT 2019; a regulatory timeline; a worked AI impact assessment; revision summaries. Then glossary, bibliography and index.

Every chapter opens with learning objectives and closes with a summary and review questions; most add a case study in a fictional enterprise, an audit and assurance perspective, and a control matrix. Law and standards are stated as at 1 October 2026.

Does the book include practice questions?

Yes. Every chapter closes with review questions, and Chapter 32 is a 40-question practice set across all three practice areas, written in the scenario-based, best-answer style explained in Chapter 31, with answers and explanations. All questions are original.

For full-length practice, the AAIG Exam Prep Kit (Book + Mock Exams) edition adds a 187-page volume with a 180-question bank and two 90-question mock exams, and seven handouts, for ₹5,000 / US$59.

How do I prepare for the AAIG exam with this book?

The Start Here page gives three reading schedules:

  • 4 weeks: Part I and Chapters 5–11; Chapters 12–21; Part IV; then Part V and Appendix E.
  • 6 weeks: Part I; Chapters 5–11; Chapters 12–14; Part III; Part IV; then Part V and Appendix E.
  • 8 weeks: smaller blocks of three to five chapters each week, finishing with the Chapter 32 practice set, the revision summaries and your weakest chapters.

Do not skip Chapter 3: the distinction between governance and management that it explains underlies the logic of many ISACA-style questions.

Who wrote this AAIG study guide?

Apoorva Sharma is a lawyer based in Mumbai, India, with more than eight years of experience in data privacy (including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), Trust and Safety, and commercial and regulatory work. She has done that work at Uber, Junglee Games (Flutter Entertainment) and Adfactors PR. Her practice sits where data protection, platform safety and regulatory compliance meet, which is why the books explain how rules operate inside an organisation as well as what they say. The AAIG preface sets out her approach: to write as she would advise a client, precisely and without overstatement, with attention to what an organisation must actually do.
