About me

I did this. Recently. The hard way. I spent 25+ years in marketing and commercial leadership roles across Microsoft, Samsung Electronics America, and EE/T-Mobile UK — working across a range of products, categories, and markets at different levels of seniority. In March 2023, a layoff became the push I needed to pursue something I'd thought about for years: acquiring a small business. The search that followed wasn't quick or linear. It took time, patience, dead ends, and a genuine tolerance for uncertainty — qualities that, it turns out, are more important to this process than any spreadsheet skill. In January 2026, I acquired Reynolds Landscape Co., a 39-year-old landscape design and construction company in the Pacific Northwest with over $3M in annual revenue. I'm now the full-time owner-operator. The deal I structured to get there was creative by necessity. During the process I developed hands-on experience across SBA loans, traditional bank financing, owner financing, investor capital, and private money — each with its own rules, tradeoffs, and lender dynamics. The terms I landed on were designed to protect the buyer's position while keeping the seller motivated and satisfied. None of it followed a standard playbook. Everyone's path to acquisition looks different. What the successful ones have in common is persistence — and a willingness to keep learning in the face of a process that doesn't reward impatience.
