About me

Dr. Sharada Devi. V did her PhD research at the Institute of English, University of Kerala. She submitted her PhD thesis in December 2021. Her Open Defence was on 21st November 2022. On 8th December 2022, the University of Kerala Syndicate awarded her the Doctor of Philosophy degree in English. She has cleared UGC NET in English. After taking an M. Phil in English, she worked as a Guest Lecturer in English for a year at Govt. College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram. She has presented about 11 papers at different national and international seminars and conferences. She has published a few research articles in UGC CARE-listed and peer-reviewed journals. Her article titled “Moulding Disabled Identities: A Subjective Analysis” has been published in the book Wounded Wings: Cultural Politics of Disability in Literature and Cinema (2022), published by Upanayan Publications, New Delhi. Her research article is included in the book 'Discourses on Disability' published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. As a Resource Person, Sharada has delivered 11 lectures for higher educational institutions and other organizations within India. She has written an article for Anweshi Women's Council's (Kozhikode) in-house magazine Sanghaditha (July 2022 issue). Sharada is a person with a physical disability and a wheelchair user. She constantly makes interventions in academic and non-academic spaces to create an awareness of disability rights and the issues of persons with disabilities in the country. Her area of research is Disability Studies, and she is interested in exploring its intersections with media, gender, sexuality, and so on. She worked as an intern at the Centre for Disability Studies, CMS College, Kottayam in Kerala, and contributed to the comprehensive Annotated Bibliography of Disability Studies prepared by the Centre. She has also done editing and proofreading chapters of the book published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. She is the Guest Editor for the February 2023 issue of 'Sanghaditha' magazine, which deals with the theme "Disability: Politics and Representation". She was invited by the Hon. Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice Department (Kerala), Dr. R. Bindu, to present a paper at a Women's Day special seminar organised by the Social Justice Department, Kerala, on 8th March 2023. At present, she is also freelancing in the academic field.
